A British population control group set up a giant inflatable balloon baby Monday to demand that more unborn babies be killed in abortions for the sake of the planet.
The disturbing display is a project of Population Matters, which advocates for “unrestricted access to modern contraception and abortion” as a way of slowing climate change. It set up its “Big Baby” this week in Glasgow, Scotland for the United Nations Climate Change conference.
“Big Baby is inflated and ready to spread the message that choosing a small family is one of the most powerful eco-actions individuals in the Global North can take,” the group wrote on Twitter.
The display is a 7-meter tall inflatable baby dressed in a blue shirt with the words “Smaller families, cooler planet” written across it. According to Politics UK, the balloon baby also is holding a toy airplane.
In a video on Twitter, a Population Matters spokesman stood in front of the “Big Baby” while lamenting that millions of women across the world do not have the “choice” to abort theirs.
“We’re drawing attention to the fact that in a rich, developed country like the UK, like Scotland, like England, choosing to have a smaller family is the best thing you can do to take the heat off the planet,” the spokesman said.

While abortion on demand is legal across the UK and the United States, many countries in Africa and South America still protect unborn babies from abortion. A few in Europe still do, too.
This is a problem, according to Population Matters, because “choice” is “the No. 2 solution to climate change.”
“Of course, we have choice here, whereas hundreds of millions of women across the world don’t have that choice, don’t have that right,” the spokesman said. “If we can meet that unmet choice and right for safe, modern family planning, for the number of kids you have … that is also not just brilliant for people and their well-being, but it’s also great for the well-being of the planet.”
He claimed that reducing family size through abortion and birth control will “save more carbon dioxide than all onshore and offshore windpower combined.”
Even if this is true, it does not justify a massive human rights violation. Abortions violently and cruelly destroy unborn babies’ right to life. Some abortion procedures tear nearly fully formed unborn babies limb from limb while their hearts are still beating, and others involve stabbing the unborn baby in the heart with poison to end their life.
In 2020, an estimated 42.6 million abortions occurred world-wide, according to Worldometers. Each killed a unique, irreplaceable, living human being who probably had a heartbeat and was someone’s child.
Fears about overpopulation have been widely overblown, and some group’s actions to address the supposed problem also have been oppressive toward born human beings, including China’s One Child Policy. The policy led to forced abortions, forced sterilizations and other human rights abuses.
What Population Matters is advocating for is massive violence against innocent unborn children – and they are trying to hide the ugliness of their position with a bouncy balloon baby.
