“Pro-Life” Senator Bob Casey Can’t Even Say if Abortion Kills a Human Being

Senator Bob Casey, who campaigned as a pro-life candidate, stumbled over his words this week when asked if he believes an abortion kills a human being and couldn’t even answer the basic question.

Though the Pennsylvania Democrat has not said it, many believe he has abandoned his pro-life position in lockstep with the increasingly pro-abortion Democratic Party.

This week, a journalist with CNS News confronted Casey about his position on the issue, asking if he believes “an unborn child killed by abortion is a human being.”

“I have-” Casey responded. “I’ve had years of votes that, that, ah, indicate what my record is.”

According to National Right to Life, Casey votes pro-life only 32 percent of the time.

CNS News also asked the Catholic lawmaker if he agrees with Pope Francis’s recent statement condemning abortion as murder.

“Pope Francis recently said abortion is ‘truly murder.’ Do you agree with him?” the journalist asked.

Casey hesitated before responding: “Well, I’m not going to- I’m not going to comment on something the pope says. That’s, that’s- he is the holy father and he, ah, he speaks for the Catholic Church, but I’m not going to comment on his statements.”

Over the past few years, Casey’s actions have raised major questions about his commitment to the pro-life cause. He attended a pro-abortion fundraising event in 2019 and received campaign donations from pro-abortion groups.

Then, in August, he voted to keep late-term abortions legal and force taxpayers to pay for them. First, Casey voted with his party against an amendment to prohibit late-term abortions on pain-capable unborn babies after 20 weeks of pregnancy as well as another amendment to protect unborn babies with Down syndrome from discrimination.

About a week later, he voted with all Senate Democrats – minus one – against an amendment to prohibit taxpayer funding for abortions in a multi-trillion dollar infrastructure bill.

In doing so, Casey abandoned his promises to voters. In 2018, he campaigned for re-election on the platform of being pro-life. Polls consistently show that most Americans oppose taxpayer funding for abortions and a strong majority want to ban late-term abortions.

Casey’s voting record on the issue has been mixed for years. Among other things, he repeatedly has voted to support taxpayer funding for the billion-dollar abortion chain Planned Parenthood, which does about 40 percent of all abortions in the U.S.

The Democratic Party and its allies in the abortion industry started quietly pushing out pro-life Democrats a few years ago or demanding that they conform to a radical pro-abortion agenda. Some have left, others like Casey have conformed and some, including former Congressman Dan Lipinski of Illinois, have lost to radical pro-abortion Democrats backed by leftist big-money g
