Gavin Newsom Signs Bill Letting Kids Hide Their Abortions From Their Parents

California Gov. Gavin Newsom recently signed a new law that makes it easier for underage girls to hide abortions from their parents.

Unlike most states, California does not require an underage girl to seek permission from or notify a parent before aborting an unborn baby.

The new law, which Newsom signed in late September, will make it even easier for girls to get secret abortions – or for their abusers to force them into one – by requiring insurance companies to keep “sensitive” patient information confidential from the primary policyholder, according to the Washington Examiner.

State Assemblyman David Chiu, D-San Francisco, sponsored the legislation, and the billion-dollar abortion chain Planned Parenthood supported it.

“In short, Planned Parenthood wants parents to pay through their insurance for abortion and other services for their children, but without parental knowledge or consent,” California Pro-Life Council responded on its website.

The pro-life organization said the legislation will force insurance companies to hide children’s “sensitive” medical procedures from their parents, including “abortions, sexual assault treatment, drug abuse and mental health treatment, cross-sex hormones, puberty blockers and sex-change operations.”

It also requires insurance companies to “accommodate requests for confidential communication of medical information” whether or not “disclosure would endanger the individual,” according to the Catholic News Agency. The legislation is slated to go into effect in July.

When Newsom signed the bill, his office said he wants California to be a “haven” for abortions.

“California has been a leader in protecting access to sexual and reproductive rights, but as we’ve seen recently with unprecedented attacks on these rights, we can and must do more,” Newsom said in a statement.

That same day, the Democrat governor also signed another pro-abortion law, Assembly Bill 1356, that creates harsher penalties for anyone who records or photographs patients or abortion workers within 100 feet of the entrance to an abortion facility, the Examiner reports.

The Newsom administration also announced plans to participate in the California Future of Abortion Council, a new group established by Planned Parenthood, NARAL and others.

Newsom said the council will work to “advance our state’s leadership on this vital issue” – meaning expanding the killing of unborn babies in abortions.

California has very few restrictions on abortions, and Newsom’s leadership has been a gift to the billion-dollar abortion industry.

During his first year as governor, he doubled state taxpayer funding to Planned Parenthood and other pro-abortion groups, FOX 40 reports. He also signed a law forcing public colleges to provide abortions for free on campus – something even his pro-abortion predecessor Gov. Jerry Brown thought was too radical. And when other states began passing a record number of pro-life laws to protect unborn babies, Newsom issued a proclamation welcoming women to come to California for abortions.
