Joe Biden will have his first official meeting with Pope Francis next month. The Pope has recently called killing babies in aboritons “murder” and, since that is what abortion is, the head of the Catholic Church should rebuke Biden for aggressively promoting abortion despite declaring himself a “devout Catholic.”
Pope Francis is expected to receive Joe Biden on October 29 in Biden’s first official visit to the Vatican since his inauguration.
The sources told CNA on Sept. 25 that their information came directly from the Prefecture for the Pontifical Household. Though encounters with heads of state are diplomatic occasions, the Prefecture is responsible for the organization and protocol around the meetings.
Another independent source told CNA that preparations were underway at the U.S. Embassy to the Holy See and the first loads of trucks and equipment for the visit were already on their way to Rome.
The Vatican does not usually give advance notice of visits by heads of state. Generally, information is provided just a few days before meetings take place. The Holy See tends to confirm the visit only after the head of state makes an official announcement.

According to the sources, Biden’s trip would be an official visit. First, the president would have a meeting with Pope Francis. Then there would be bilateral talks in the Secretariat of State with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Vatican Secretary of State, and Archbishop Paul Gallagher, the Secretary for Relations with States and the Vatican’s equivalent of a foreign minister.
Pope Francis has soundly condemned abortion twice this month — calling the killing of unborn babies “murder.”
This week, Pope Francis decried the “throwaway” culture that makes abortion seem “normal.”
“There is the waste of children that we don’t want welcome,” he said. “It is really a murder.”
He added: “Is it right to eliminate, to take a human life to solve a problem? Is it right to hire a hitman to solve a problem? That’s what abortion is.”
The pontiff also condemned abortion recently, saying that abortion kills babies whose lives begin at conception and must be respected.
Pope Francis said, “Abortion is more than an issue. Abortion is murder. Those who carry out abortions kill.”
Biden has compiled an extensive pro-abortion record — doing more than any other president ever to make abortions available up to birth and forcing American taxpayers to fund them. That has earned him a sharp rebuke from Catholic leaders here in the United States, and Pope Francis should follow their lead.
San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone published a pastoral letter making the case that Biden and pro-abortion politicians should be denied communion. He said denying Communion may be “the only recourse a pastor has left” if pro-abortion politicians refuse to listen to reason and obstinately persist in their sin.
“Absolutely not, absolutely not,” Cordileone responded to a question about abortion activists receiving communion. “We’re talking about killing innocent human beings. So this is a very serious matter. Anyone who cooperates in that is involving themselves in a very serious sin, and absolutely not. That’s not possible.”
Quoting Ezekiel 33:8, the archbishop said Catholic leaders have a duty to call out wickedness or else be held responsible along with those who persist in sinning.
“I tremble that if I do not forthrightly challenge Catholics under my pastoral care who advocate for abortion, both they and I will have to answer to God for innocent blood,” Cordileone continued.
Cordileone’s letter received praise from Archbishop Joseph Naumann, who chairs the U.S. bishops’ Committee on Pro-Life Activities, and others. Naumann agreed that Catholic politicians who advocate for abortions are “creating scandal by encouraging others to do evil.”
As such, Pope Francis should call out Biden for promoting abortion and tell him to get in line with the Catholic Church and its pro-life teachings.
