Colorado Congresswoman Lauren Boebert called out pro-abortion lawmakers Wednesday for promoting the lie that rape victims need to abort their unborn babies.

Boebert, a pro-life Republican, said women need guns to be able to defend themselves from sexual assault, not abortions, The Independent reports.

“‘Rape victims need abortion.’ Wrong. They need love. They need support. They need safety and healing. They needed a Glock 19 when it happened,” she told lawmakers on the U.S. House floor. “Rather than focusing on the baby, it’s time to focus on the [rapist].”

Speaking to Democrat Congressional leaders as they prepare to vote on a radical pro-abortion bill, Boebert refuted several lies about the killing of unborn babies in abortions, according to the report.

“The first lie is that abortion is beneficial to women,” she said, according to the Washington Newsday. “That’s some CNN fake news right there.”

Boebert pointed to studies showing that women who have abortions are at an 81-percent higher risk of mental health problems, 35-percent higher risk of suicide, and up to 60-percent higher risk of a subsequent miscarriage or pre-term birth.

“Every abortion results in the death of one person and the injury of another,” she said.

Her comments sparked outrage among abortion activists and leftists who called her ideas “stupid” and misrepresented what she said.

“I want to say this is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard but I’ve heard a lot of stupid,” responded Molly Jong-Fast, editor at The Daily Beast.

Shannon Watta, founder of the gun control group Moms Demand Action, claimed Boebert blamed rape victims for their own abuse, according to the Independent.

“Colorado [representative] Lauren Boebert blames rape victims for their own assaults, saying they should have been armed to fend off rapists,” Watta said. “The vast majority of rape victims — more than two-thirds — are assaulted by someone they know.”

What the pro-life congresswoman actually did was encourage women to protect themselves from abuse and their unborn babies from the violence of abortion.

“Abortion is not healthcare, it is murder,” she said last week in a video posted on her Facebook page. “I rise to speak in defense of those who cannot defend themselves. The voiceless, the unborn. I rise to say what we have all known to be true that human lives begins at conception because we know science is real.”

Democrats in Congress are pushing for a vote this week on a bill that pro-life advocates describe as the most radical pro-abortion legislation in history. Deceptively named the Women’s Health Protection Act, the bill would erase basically all restrictions on abortion and prevent states from enacting even modest protections for unborn babies. It also would force taxpayers to fund the killing of unborn babies in abortions.

According to Roll Call, the Democrat-controlled U.S. House likely will vote on the legislation Friday.

Polls consistently show strong opposition to the measures in the bill, including taxpayer-funded abortions. A new AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll found that 65 percent of Americans think most or all abortions should be illegal in the second-trimester and 80 percent think most or all should be illegal in the third trimester.

ACTION ALERT: Contact U.S. House lawmakers and tell them to vote NO on this radical pro-abortion legislation.
