Lara Trump slammed a “totally ridiculous” MSNBC op-ed Thursday for comparing pro-life advocates who are trying to save unborn babies to Taliban terrorists.
The leftist news outlet has been facing massive criticism this week for running an op-ed by Dean Obeidallah claiming both pro-life Republicans and the Taliban are “threats” to “women’s rights.” MSNBC host Joy Reid made a similar comparison on Twitter over the weekend.
Trump, appearing on Fox & Friends, said the comparison is “totally ridiculous” because pro-life Republicans are working to protect human rights and the Taliban is doing the exact opposite.
“Let me just remind people that the Taliban is a barbaric terrorist organization who treats women as second-class citizens, subhuman even,” she said.
The Taliban prohibits women from working or getting an education; women are not even allowed to leave their houses without a male escort, Trump continued.

“We saw a woman murdered in broad daylight the other day because she didn’t have her head covered,” she said. “Yet writers are trying to compare that to pro-life Republicans who are actually trying to save a life, trying to prevent the termination of a life? Wow, that is quite a stretch.”
She slammed the MSNBC commenters for their hypocrisy, noting that Democrats are “constantly” screaming “My body, my choice” on abortion while at the same time trying to mandate COVID-19 vaccines.
The MSNBC piece has drawn wide-spread criticism from pro-life leaders as well.
Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony List, said the news agency hurt women and children by running the dishonest piece.
“MSNBC does the nation a great disservice in allowing this piece to run, which exploits Afghan women, ignores their values, and smears pro-life Republicans who are fighting every day in Congress to defend the lives of American women and their unborn babies from the extreme agenda of the abortion lobby,” Dannenfelser said.
She pointed out that the United States is one of only seven countries in the world, along with China and North Korea, that allow unborn babies to be aborted for any reason up to birth.
“Pro-life lawmakers are to be commended for their courage in challenging this extreme status quo – and they should be emboldened by the truth that the majority of Americans are on their side, eager to humanize our laws,” Dannenfelser said.
Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League, described the piece as “extreme anti-Christian bigotry,” noting reports of the Taliban going door to door in Afghanistan looking for girls as young as 12 to force into sex slavery.
“Those who compare conservative Christians to the Taliban evince an extreme anti-Christian bigotry while denigrating the condition of women who are forced to live under Taliban rule,” he wrote at LifeNews earlier this week. “The comparison is obscene. So is MSNBC for giving these bigots a platform.”
