Congressional Republicans criticized Secretary of State Antony Blinken this week for promoting the killing of unborn babies in abortions across the globe.

In a letter, 25 pro-life members of the Republican Study Committee asked the Biden administration leader to justify his claim that abortion is a “human right,” Breitbart reports.

“What international covenant or treaty that is binding on the United States and has been ratified by the Senate establishes unfettered access to abortion and/or the killing of the unborn as a universal human right?” they wrote.

They referred to comments that Blinken made in April declaring that “reproductive rights are human rights even though the United States is not a signatory of any international treaty enshrining abortion access as a human right,” according to the report.

In April, Blinken said his department will add language promoting “reproductive rights,” including abortion on demand, to its Country Reports on Human Rights Practices.

During the Trump administration, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo removed the phrase from the report to make it clear that the U.S. does not believe the killing of unborn babies in abortions is a “right.”

“For many years, our human rights reports contained a section on reproductive health …” Blinken said at the time. “And we are restoring the practice of documenting these rights in 2021 and future years.”

In their letter this week, Republican lawmakers also asked Blinken to explain his criticism of the non-partisan Commission on Unalienable Rights, which was established by former Secretary Pompeo, according to the report. The commission promoted religious freedom world-wide, but Blinken disbanded it in April.

“Your culture-war diplomacy stands in marked contrast to your predecessor Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who made the protection of human rights, especially the equal dignity of all people, a top priority, especially through the creation of the non-partisan Commission on Unalienable Rights, which you have denounced,” the lawmakers said.

They asked Blinken to explain what specific statements the commission made that he believes are wrong.

Lawmakers who signed the letter included House Republican Whip Steve Scalise, of Louisiana, U.S. Rep. Jim Banks of Indiana, according to Breitbart.

The Biden administration has been pushing the most radical pro-abortion policies in U.S. history.

Among other things, Blinken had the U.S. rejoin the United Nations Human Rights Council, which describes abortion as a “human right.” When the Trump administration withdrew from the council, UN Ambassador Nikki Haley called it “a protector of human rights abusers and a cesspool of political bias.”

Blinken’s department also gave $32.5 million in American tax dollars to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), an agency linked to forced and coerced abortions and other oppressive population control measures. This also reversed actions by the Trump administration, which defunded UNFPA and redirected funding to life-affirming foreign aid groups.
