Ex Planned Parenthood CEO is Not Pro-Choice, Says People Must be Forced to Get COVID Vaccine

Choice and bodily autonomy are important to Dr. Leana Wen, a former CEO of Planned Parenthood.

With abortion, that is. Not so much with vaccines for COVID-19.

The Federalist criticized Wen for her hypocrisy this week, noting her contrasting opinions on the vaccine and abortion.

“As a woman who so vocally champions the (deceptively named) ‘pro-choice’ movement, the last thing Leana Wen should be doing is forcing her choices onto the unvaccinated,” Federalist writer Haley Strack responded.

In an interview Sunday on CNN, Wen suggested society should put more pressure on people to get vaccinated for COVID-19.

“What we really need to do at this point is to make vaccination the easy choice. It needs to be hard for people to remain unvaccinated,” she said. “Right now, it’s kind of the opposite — it’s fine, it’s easy if you’re unvaccinated. You can do everything you want to do anyway.”

“But at some point … I think it will be important to say ‘Hey, you can opt out, but if you want to opt out, you have to sign these forms, you have to get twice-weekly testing,’” she said.

Wen also wrote an opinion piece for the Washington Post urging President Joe Biden to increase the pressure on people to get vaccinated.

“Biden announced on Tuesday that his administration will double down on vaccination efforts with more community outreach and educational resources. That’s not nearly enough,” she wrote. “Biden needs to get behind proof of vaccination, starting with his own White House events.”

Wen apparently does not respect the bodily autonomy of Americans who, for many different reasons, have not been vaccinated for the coronavirus. Some, for example, have moral objections to vaccines that are developed with cell lines created from aborted babies.

But when it comes to killing unborn babies in abortions, Wen fully supports “choice.” She ran the largest abortion chain in the U.S. and advocated for abortion on demand.

“Every person deserves the right to control their body, their life, and their future,” Wen said in 2019 when she was head of Planned Parenthood. “… Our bodies are our own — if they are not, we cannot be truly free or equal.”

With the vaccine, this may be true. But with abortion, the “choice” always involves two bodies, two unique living human beings, and the “choice” is to intentionally kill one of those human beings, the child.
