Virginia Gov Ralph Northam Makes it Illegal to Release a Balloon, Letting Babies Die in Infanticide is OK

A new law signed by Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam makes it illegal to intentionally release a balloon outside in the state.

Northam and the Democrat-controlled state legislature made the law a priority this year, citing concerns about litter and the hazards of balloon debris to sea turtles and birds, The Virginian-Pilot reports. It goes into effect starting Thursday.

However, Northam and many state lawmakers lack similar compassion for babies, born and unborn, who are targeted by the violence of abortion. In March, they passed a law to expand abortions, and, two years ago, Northam even defended infanticide during a live radio interview.

In an interview published this week, state Del. Nancy Guy, D-Virginia Beach, said some lawmakers laughed at her balloon legislation, and it took years to pass it. Her law punishes people with a $25 fine per balloon; for children under 16, their parents would be fined, according to the report.

Guy said her legislation addresses a “dire” problem with balloon litter on beaches, where sea turtles, birds and other animals sometimes attempt to eat the material and die.

“I don’t think people do these balloon releases out of malice; they do it out of ignorance about how dire these impacts can be,” she told the newspaper.

Protecting animals and the environment are good things, but Guy’s priorities are mixed up.

Both she and Northam are strong supporters of abortion on demand. On her website, Guy claims that “it is not the role of government to dictate that a woman must become a mother” – even though banning abortion does not force motherhood on anyone, it prohibits abortionists from killing the unborn children of women who already are mothers.

Worse, Northam — a pediatrician who should know better — has defended abortions for basically any reason up to birth and infanticide. He also has signed multiple laws to expand this violence against unborn babies.

In March, the governor signed a law to repeal a ban on elective abortion coverage in the state Affordable Care Act health exchange. Now the Virginia health care plans cover abortion on demand for any reason, subsidized by taxpayers.

In 2020, Northam declared elective abortions “essential” during the coronavirus shutdowns and called for abortions to be enshrined as a “right” in the Virginia Constitution. That year, he also signed a law ending informed consent requirements for women seeking abortions and allowing non-doctors to abort unborn babies in the state.

Infamously, in a 2019 interview, Northam also defended allowing late-term newborn babies to die without medical care when they survive abortions.

“If a mother is in labor…the infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and mother,” he said.

Later, Northam doubled down on his comment via a spokesman who essentially said the governor was only talking about infanticide in cases of disabled babies. Later, Northam said he would not apologize for his statements.

Abortion is a massive human rights abuse against unique, living human beings. In 2018 alone, abortions intentionally and unnecessarily destroyed the lives of 16,474 unborn babies in Virginia and nearly 1 million across the United States.
