Pro-Abortion Democrats are Worried Pro-Life Republicans Will Take Back Congress in 2022

We’ve written more than once (actually numerous times) on (a) the disconnect on abortion between manically pro-abortion Democrats and the people of color whom they claim to represent but who are far more pro-life; and (b) how gradually this cleavage is showing up in support, for example, for President Trump and other pro-life Republicans. Although it seems hard to believe, all eyes are already looking ahead to the 2022 off-year elections.

So, it comes as no surprise that there has been a slew of panicky articles in the several months from pro-abortionists addressing “an emerging trend in Democratic politics: a disconnect between progressive activists and the rank-and-file Black and Latino voters who they say have the most to gain from their agenda,” as the New York Times’s Lisa Lerer wrote June 26.

The flash point for Lerer’s column, headlined “Progressives’ Urgent Question: How to Win Over Voters of Color,” is the apparent victory of a law and order retired police captain in New York City’s mayoral primary. Abortion is not mentioned as an issue but get a load of this paragraph:

In a contest that centered on crime and public safety, Eric Adams, who emerged as the leading Democrat, focused much of his message on denouncing progressive slogans and policies that he said threatened the lives of “Black and brown babies” and were being pushed by “a lot of young, white, affluent people.”

Hakeem Jefferson, an assistant professor of political science at Stanford University, said

“The median Black voter is not A.O.C. and is actually closer to Eric Adams.”

Pro-life candidates  are already making deep inroads into the Hispanic community, an intuitively pro-life constituency. The New York Times wrote about the canary in the coal mine [] earlier this month under the headline

Republicans win two Texas mayoral races, including one in McAllen, which is 85 percent Hispanic.

Add to this the already large and still growing number of pro-life Republican women taking their seats in Congress and the statehouses and you immediately understand why there is a palpable whiff of fear in Democrat circles.

Elaine Godfrey, writing in The Atlantic talked about the battle between “moderates” and “progressives” over the Democrats’ terrible performance in 2020 in House races:

Eight months later, the Democrats are still fighting over who’s to blame.

The response of one “progressive” source–Pramila Jayapal of the Congressional Progressive Caucus PAC –was typical. The Democrats’ problem, she said, was “that voters don’t seem to have a firm idea of what Democrats stand for.”

But on a whole range of issue, the truth is the exact opposite. People know precisely where Democrats stand which is why they lost and lost and lost.

How about abortion? When it comes to our issue, pro-abortion Democrats try every which way to have it all ways.

“Personally pro-life” used to be the mantra, now it’s trying to hide their extremism by turning truth on its head–casting pro-life Republicans as the extremists!

To come full circle, pro-abortion Democrats are wildly out of the mainstream and constituencies that are inherently pro-life—African Americans and Latinos—are moving in the direction of pro-life Republicans every day.

I suspect even Democrat apologists, such as Lerer, grudgingly understand that.
