“Catholic for Choice” Group Claims Killing Babies in Abortion “is Not a Sin”

Catholics for Choice posted another outrageous statement online Tuesday, claiming that killing a baby in the womb is not a “sin,” no matter what the reason.

“Abortion is not a sin. It’s okay to get an abortion because you want an abortion,” it wrote on Twitter. The pro-abortion group is not affiliated with the Catholic Church.

Seemingly, the whole goal of Catholics for Choice is to lead Christians astray by advocating for the killing of unborn babies in abortions under the “Catholic” title. Its “mission” contradicts fundamental, centuries-old Christian beliefs about the sanctity of human life.

National Review editor Jack Butler responded with quotes from the “Catechism of the Catholic Church” that make it clear that abortion is a sin and every human life is valuable.

“2270 Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception. From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person — among which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life,” the catechism states.

Church teaching on abortion has been the same since the first century and it “remains unchangeable,” the church document continues. It also instructs Christians to treat every human being as a person from the moment of conception and to defend, care for and heal that person “as far as possible, like any other human being.”

These same beliefs, based on scripture, have been held by many Christians and Jews for centuries.

While the Bible does not specifically mention the word “abortion,” it does condemn the life-destroying practice. Even in ancient times, babies in the womb were viewed as valuable. This is evident in Luke 1:41 and Jeremiah 1:5, which states: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately wrought in the depths of the earth.”

Jesus placed great value on children when others in society did not in Matthew 19:14, and Proverbs 6:16-17 states that one of the things God hates most is the shedding of innocent blood. One of the ten commandments prohibits murder.

These passages and others demonstrate the value of every human life, and they are the reason why so many Christians dedicate their lives to defending unborn babies from abortion.
