Catholics in Macau mourned Saturday for the unborn babies who are killed in abortions while dedicating a new monument to their lives.

UCA News reports Bishop Stephen Lee celebrated the special pro-life Mass for the unborn at the new monument, a “Tribute to Unborn Baby Angels.” It is one of many monuments across the world set up in remembrance of the millions of unborn babies who have been killed in abortions.

Those who gathered on Saturday mourned for the unborn babies who have been denied a right to life in Macau.

Father Daniel Ribeiro, of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Nativity, also participated in the Mass, according to the report.

“We as Catholics should pray for these children, these unborn babies,” Riberio said. “We should have a celebratory moment for the lives of the fetuses who were never born as they were aborted.”

Just how many unborn babies are aborted in Macau, a special administrative region of China that, until 1999, was under Portuguese control, is not clear, but the region is a notorious hub for human trafficking, the report states. Catholics believe many unborn babies also are victims of abortion there as a result.

Abortions are legal for any reason up to birth in China, and women report being forced or coerced to abort their unborn babies under the Chinese Communist Party’s population control measures.
