Pro-abortion groups put pressure on New Jersey lawmakers again this week to pass a bill that would legalize the killing of unborn babies up to birth and force taxpayers to pay for their deaths.
The New Jersey Globe reports lawmakers have delayed action on the so-called Reproductive Freedom Act (Senate Bill 3030/Assembly Bill 4848) for more than six months.
New Jersey already has the highest abortion rate in the country and some of the most permissive pro-abortion laws. Pro-lifers in the state have been working hard to stop the radical pro-abortion expansion, warning that it could lead to more human trafficking as well as more abortions.
In a statement this week, however, about 30 pro-abortion groups urged state lawmakers to pass the bill, claiming it would “protect reproductive health,” according to the Globe.
“New Jersey has made strides towards protecting reproductive health, and this bill will be another step in the right direction,” they said. “We must pass the Reproductive Freedom Act to protect and expand access to reproductive health care in New Jersey today.”

The groups, which include Planned Parenthood, the National Organization of Women and YWCA, predicted that “abortion access” will be “further eroded” in the future, so lawmakers must act now to prevent it from happening in New Jersey.
“The Reproductive Freedom Act removes logistical barriers by updating and repealing medically unnecessary, harmful regulations that regulate abortion differently from any other medical procedure and restrict access to care,” they said.
According to the report, the pro-abortion legislation also is a priority for state Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg. She recently told the news outlet that her goal is for the legislature to pass the bill by the end of the year.
A pet project of pro-abortion Gov. Phil Murphy, the bill would legalize the killing of unborn babies for basically any reason up to birth.
It would invalidate all current and future laws that restrict abortions and allow nurse practitioners and midwives to abort unborn babies, according to New Jersey Right to Life. It also would get rid of the 1974 state conscience clause that protects pro-life medical workers from being forced to help abort unborn babies.
Justice for babies outside the womb also is at risk. Previously, Marie Tasy, executive director of New Jersey Right to Life, slammed the bill as “disgraceful” because it would eliminate language allowing authorities to prosecute infanticide.
“Instead of providing real solutions to decrease the high rate of maternal and infant mortalities and health care disparities among certain populations in New Jersey, S3030/A4848 is perversely laser-focused on barbarically destroying the lives of infants, both before and after they are born,” Tasy said.
Other parts of the bill would give more taxpayer dollars to the abortion industry by mandating state budget funding to the billion-dollar abortion chain Planned Parenthood and require all state health insurance plans to cover abortions, according to the pro-life organization.
New Jersey pro-life groups recently united to stop the legislation through a new coalition, Working Together for NJ. Among other things, they have been holding peaceful pro-life protests outside the offices of key state lawmakers to urge them to vote “no” on the abortion expansion bill.
Pro-life leaders said the legislation also will hurt women — the very people who abortion activists say they to want to help.
It’s “a human trafficker’s best friend. Sex slaves get pregnant. Human traffickers have to pay for the abortions as a result. But this legislation will require all New Jersey taxpayers to pay for the abortions of sex trafficking victims,” said the Rev. Gregory Quinlan of Center for Garden State Families, previously.
Polls consistently show that most Americans oppose late-term abortions and taxpayer-funded abortions. A 2020 Gallup poll found that 55 percent of Americans think all or almost all abortions should be illegal, while just 29 percent think abortions should be legal under any circumstances.
About 41,000 unborn babies are aborted every year in New Jersey, according to state health statistics.
