The pro-life documentary “Life after Abortion” includes the heartbreaking testimony of a mother whose daughter and unborn grandchild died after a botched abortion.
Live Action News reports the mother told director Brian Barkley that she had no idea her daughter Laura was getting an abortion – until she received a frightening call in the middle of the night.
“The caller ID said it was Laura calling,” the mother remembered. “We were always so happy to hear from her. She was such a joy.
“When I answered the phone, though, I didn’t hear Laura’s voice,” she continued. “I heard screaming and crying. I could make out four words: ‘Laura,’ ‘not breathing,’ ’emergency room’ and ‘abortion.’”
The woman said she called the hospital and spoke with the doctor who had treated her daughter. She said it quickly became evident by the doctor’s words that the worst had occurred.
After describing how they had tried to treat Laura, the doctor told her mother, “’She’s gone.’”
The words “hit me like thunder. The oxygen was sucked out of my room when he said those words,” she said.
She said they drove to the hospital at 2 a.m. and saw their daughter’s dead body.

“Laura was brought down to the morgue. I have not led a sheltered life, but nothing prepared me for this,” her mother said. “To see my beautiful daughter wheeled out on a gurney in a body bag. He unzipped the body bag and inside was laying my beautiful daughter with all the tubes still attached to her.”
Similar tragedies have affected hundreds, perhaps thousands, of other families in America. Abortions always kill an unborn baby’s life, but sometimes they kill mothers, too.
Earlier this month, an autopsy revealed that a 29-year-old Alabama woman died in 2020 after an abortion at the West Alabama Women’s Center. The autopsy found that the woman’s cervix had been perforated, and her unborn baby’s body had not been removed from her womb.
According to statistics from the Centers for Disease Control, more than 400 women have died from abortions in the U.S., though the agency admits that its data is limited and the number likely is higher.
Tragically, another woman recently died along with her unborn baby after an abortion in Argentina. Their deaths occurred only three months after the South American country legalized abortion.
