If “Black Lives Matter,” BLM Activists Should Oppose Abortion

Abortion is the number one destroyer of black lives in America.

Yet, Black Lives Matter, an organization supposedly dedicated to ending violence against African Americans, is doing nothing to prevent it, Andrea Widburg wrote this week at the American Thinker.

Widburg, formerly a pro-choice Democrat, said she became pro-life, in part, because she began to realize the horrific impact of abortion in the U.S., including the massive numbers of unborn babies who are killed every year.

In the African American community, the numbers are especially staggering. According to the most recent statistics from the Centers for Disease Control, 117,626 (about 34 percent) of surgical abortions in 2018 were on African American mothers and their unborn babies. This, even though African Americans represent about 13 percent of the U.S. population.

Other numbers are even more shocking.

Since 1973, an estimated 20 million unborn black babies have been killed in abortions. According to research by black pro-life advocate Walter Hoye, that amounts to about half of the American black population.

And New York City statistics show that more black babies are aborted than are born in the city most years.

Despite the evidence, Widburg said Black Lives Matter and similar groups are “unperturbed by the annual deaths of over a hundred thousand Black infants and are doing nothing to stop the slaughter of Black children in Democrat-run, gun-controlled urban neighborhoods.”

She blamed the Democratic Party for pushing abortions on African Americans, too, calling it a “relentless obsession” that has turned the party “into a death cult.”

“The people who should care most about the welfare of children in the Black community are the mothers. Instead, though, the Democrat obsession with abortion encourages Black women to think nothing about disposing of their babies,” she continued.

“The message is clear to the children who manage to survive to birth: whether they’re killed in utero or out of it, Black lives are indeed disposable,” Widburg wrote.

Abortions kill almost 1 million unborn babies every year in the United States. While abortions harm families of every race and culture, research shows that African Americans have a disproportionately high abortion rate compared to other groups.

A recent study found that 86 percent of Planned Parenthood abortion facilities are located in or near African American and Latino neighborhoods.
