Bishop Says Biden’s Not “Devout” Catholic Because He’s Pro-Abortion, Liberal Christians Unhinged

Two supposedly religious organizations backed by pro-abortion billionaire George Soros are trying to get a prominent U.S. Catholic bishop kicked out of his position because he criticized President Joe Biden’s radical pro-abortion politics.

Archbishop Joseph Naumann, of Kansas City, Kansas, is the chair of the U.S. Catholic bishops’ pro-life committee. He recently urged Biden to stop calling himself a “devout Catholic” unless he repents and recommits to protecting every human life, born and unborn.

This week, the leftist groups Faith in Public Life and Faithful America called for Naumann’s removal from the pro-life committee because of this criticism, Breitbart reports.

The groups also argued that Biden, who wants to expand abortions by forcing taxpayers to pay for them and removing conscience protections from pro-life medical workers, is more pro-life than President Donald Trump was.

“From COVID-19 to climate change to family separation, Trump’s policies were so deadly that Bishop John Stowe of Lexington, KY, correctly called the ex-president ‘anti-life,’” Faith in Public Life and Faithful America said in a statement.

They demanded that the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops stop “attacking” Biden and work to find common ground with him, as Pope Francis does. They also insisted on Naumann’s removal from the pro-life committee.

“The bishops’ conference must appoint a new pro-life chair – a true pastoral leader who will pay equal attention to all life issues,” the groups said.

The groups also created a petition outlining these demands. It has nearly 20,000 signatures at Action Network.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Faith in Public Life has received millions of dollars in donations from Sorosaccording to the Capital Research Center. The American billionaire is heavily invested in abortion advocacy and elections, dumping hundreds of millions of dollars into Planned Parenthood and other groups that lobby for the killing of unborn babies in abortions across the world.

Abortion is the number one killer of human life in the world, and the U.S. Catholic bishops believe that ending it is a “preeminent priority.” In the U.S. alone, nearly 1 million unborn babies are killed in unnecessary, elective abortions every year, and more than 62 million have been aborted since 1973.

Biden’s presidency has been especially controversial among Catholics because, while the Democrat leader professes to be a devout Catholic, he also is pushing the most radical anti-life, anti-family policies that America has ever seen.

Among Biden’s priority legislation is the Equality Act, which would strip away conscience protections for pro-life medical workers and create a “right” to demand an abortion.

Naumann and other bishops repeatedly have spoken out against Biden’s pro-abortion agenda, urging him to repent and abstain from communion until he does.

“The president should stop defining himself as a devout Catholic and acknowledge that his view on abortion is contrary to Catholic moral teaching,” Naumann said in a February interview. “It would be a more honest approach from him to say he disagreed with his Church on this important issue and that he was acting contrary to Church teaching.”

This week, CatholicVote came to Naumann’s defense against the “hard-left” groups, according to the report.

In a letter, CatholicVote president Brian Burch and other Catholic and pro-life leaders praised the archbishop for his work helping unborn babies, underserved communities of color and post-abortive mothers and fathers through the Project Rachel Ministry.

“Ostensibly, the hard-left group who circulated this petition claims their call for your removal is based on what they erroneously believe to be an incompatibility with the priorities of our Holy Father,” they responded. “The letter’s author seems completely unaware that Pope Francis himself boldly compared having an abortion to ‘hiring a hitman.’”

They said the leftist “faith” groups also were wrong about Naumann’s failure to seek common ground with Biden. They said the fault is with the president, not the Catholic leader.

“… on the one hand, [Biden] talks about the importance of his Catholic faith, and with his other hand, personally signed Executive Orders that will directly lead to the deaths of thousands of unborn children,” they wrote.

Biden already has made abortion on demand a priority in his administration. Just two days after taking office, he celebrated the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that led to the unnecessary killing of more than 62 million unborn babies in abortions.

Days later, Biden got rid of the Mexico City Policy and restored tens of millions of taxpayer dollars to the International Planned Parenthood Federation, which kills babies in abortions around the world and lobbies to legalize abortions in pro-life countries. Pro-life leaders warned that the money will be used to pressure countries in Africa and South America to legalize the killing of unborn babies in abortions.

Then, earlier in March, he signed a funding bill that, for the first time in 40 years, forces taxpayers to pay for abortions by excluding the Hyde Amendment.

Biden’s choices to help lead his administration are even more radical. New HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra fought in court against a charity of nuns who serve the poor and elderly. He also defended a law that would have forced pro-life pregnancy centers to advertise abortions, and he prosecuted the undercover journalists who exposed Planned Parenthood’s aborted baby body parts trade.
