A former Nebraska school security guard is facing sexual assault charges after he allegedly raped a teenage student and then, posing as her father, took her to a Planned Parenthood to abort her unborn baby.

The Omaha World-Herald reports Ronald L. Powell, 52, a former security guard and assistant basketball coach at Omaha North High School, was arrested in February.

According to police records, a young woman, now 21, accused Powell of sexually assaulting her starting in 2015 when she was 15 years old. She said he sexually abused her for about three years, including on school property. Police said the young woman first reported the abuse in 2019.

The young woman said the abuse began in October 2015 when Powell kissed her in a school office after school. She told police that he began taking her into a locked closet in the school and eventually forced her to have sex with him, according to the local news.

The first time, she told police, “it hurt a lot” and she began to cry. The next day, she said he forced her to take Plan B, the morning after pill.

Here’s more from the report:

The woman told detectives she felt she needed to protect Powell and didn’t tell anyone about what was happening because she thought she was in a “legitimate, healthy relationship that she was committed to,” according to the affidavit.

After she turned 16, she said, Powell started to take her to hotel rooms. She became pregnant in April 2017. The woman told police that Powell pretended to be her father and took her to Planned Parenthood to obtain an abortion pill, something that later was corroborated by medical records.

It appears that Planned Parenthood did not report the suspected sexual abuse to authorities.

In 2016, the Omaha school district fired Powell after he was accused of giving out his personal phone number to female students and other inappropriate behavior, according to the report.

Police said they suspect Powell may have sexually abused other young women, too. A police detective said Powell used to “groom young girls by promising to help them get a college scholarship.”

Powell denied any inappropriate behavior, according to the report.

Abortion and abuse frequently are connected, and sexual abuse victims often feel coerced or forced into an abortion by their abusers. Sometimes the abortion industry is complicit in this by failing to report suspected sexual abuse to authorities.

Several times, Planned Parenthood facilities have been caught covering up or failing to report the sexual abuse of minors. In Ohio, Planned Parenthood faced a lawsuit after it failed to report the statutory rape of a 14-year-old girl. The girl’s soccer coach got her pregnant and then took her to the abortion clinic to cover up his crime, LifeNews reported.

In another case in Arizona, officials said a Planned Parenthood center failed to provide the proper report to authorities about a victim of a young man accused of being a serial rapist. Planned Parenthood failed to report the rape, and the young man allegedly raped 18 or more teenage girls before he was caught, according to authorities.

In 2008, a Planned Parenthood in Bloomington, Indiana also was exposed for agreeing to help cover up the sexual abuse of a minor in an undercover sting.

Meanwhile, former Planned Parenthood abortionist Ian Hardy was accused of sexually abusing patients in Massachusetts. He was forced to surrender his Massachusetts medical license in 2014 after 18 witnesses came forward in 2004 to accuse him of inappropriate sexual behavior with patients and staff. In 2016, the Boston Globe reported Hardy fled the country after two more women came forward accusing him of sexual abuse.
