At the CPAC conference today, thousands of conservatives voted for who they would like to see as the presidential nominee of the Republican Party in 2024. President Donald Trump won the straw poll in a landslide with pro-life Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis coming in second and pro-life South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem third.

With all of the votes tabulated, Trump won CPAC straw poll with 55% of the vote while DeSantis received 21%, Kristi Noem 4%, Nikki Haley 3%, and Mike Pompeo, Ted Cruz, and Rand Paul all received 2%. A smattering of other conservatives received 1% or less than one percent and some attendees voted for other people.

Without President Trump included, DeSantis is far and away the leading contender for Republicans for the next presidential election. The results without Trump broke down this way: Ron DeSantis 43% Kristi Noem 11% Donald Trump Jr. 8% Mike Pompeo 7% Ted Cruz 7% Tucker Carlson 3% Josh Hawley 3% Nikki Haley 3% Ivanka Trump 3% Rand Paul 2%

The poll also found 68% of conservatives attending the conference want President Trump to run against and he received a 97% approval rating from attendees.

“He’s literally the most popular figure we have ever had in the conservative movement,” said Jim McLaughlin, the pollster who conducted the survey.

Grassroots conservatives, he said, “believe that the Trump agenda is the future of the Republican Party.”

The poll also found conservative Americans want Republican lawmakers to do more to standf up to Joe Biden’s liberal, pro-abortion agenda and 62% said election integrity was an important issue to them — making it the most important for all attendees. Pro-life issues also made the top list of issues conservatives care about these days.
