Melissa Rogers, the new head of the White House Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, believes President Joe Biden is a strong Christian who “walks the talk” by following his beliefs in daily life.
But Rogers’ glowing description does not match with Biden’s plans to expand the killing of unborn babies in abortions and infringe on Americans’ religious freedom.
Late last week, Biden named Rogers, a Baptist, as the executive director of the office, according to the Catholic News Service. Rogers served in the same role under President Barack Obama.
Her task will be “to work with leaders of different faiths and backgrounds who are the front lines of their communities in crisis and who can help us heal, unite and rebuild,” according to the White House.
Biden identified the COVID-19 pandemic, the economy, racism and the environment as priorities for Rogers and her office, according to the report.
Rogers is a loyal Biden supporter. Before taking on the new role, she defended Biden’s faith against criticism from President Donald Trump.
In an August 2020 column at the Religion News Service, she slammed Trump for making “wild assertions” about Biden’s faith and insisted that the Democrat leader is “walking the talk.”

“If Biden were to become president, Trump said … Biden would ‘hurt the Bible’ and ‘hurt God.’ Trump asserted that Biden was ‘against God,’” she wrote.
Without addressing the basis of that criticism, namely Biden’s radical pro-abortion policies, Rogers argued that Biden is a strong man of faith.
“Biden speaks readily and movingly about his personal faith, including the duty to love one’s neighbor. But even more importantly, he lives out his faith on a daily basis,” Rogers wrote.
As evidence of this, she noted how Biden regularly attends church and listens to faith leaders’ concerns. She also described him as a politician who “cares deeply about others and respects everyone’s dignity.”
“Having a president who understands fundamental American principles matters. Having a president who listens and reaches out to people with differing views matters. Having a president who demonstrates humility and tells the truth matters,” she concluded.
Meanwhile, pro-lifers, religious and not, are still waiting for Biden to “walk the talk” that Rogers describes.
Instead of listening to faith leaders, Biden’s press secretary repeatedly has dodged and dismissed questions about forcing taxpayers to fund the abortion industry.
And contrary to public opinion, Biden already has done so. In one of his first acts as president, he rescinded the Mexico City Policy, a pro-life rule President Donald Trump put in place to defund the International Planned Parenthood Federation, which kills babies in abortions around the world and lobbies to legalize abortions in pro-life countries.
Polls consistently find that Americans do not want their tax dollars to fund abortions. According to a January Marist poll, 77 percent oppose using tax dollars to support abortion in other countries, including a majority of Democrats (55 percent) and pro-choice Americans (64 percent).
Most Americans (58 percent) also oppose using tax dollars to fund abortions in the U.S., according to the Marist poll. Similarly, a Politico/Harvard University poll found that just 36 percent of likely voters supported taxpayer funding for abortions, while 58 percent opposed it.
Most Americans want strong restrictions on abortion as well. But Biden does not. Last April, he described abortion as an “essential medical service,” and, in June, he said he believes in a “woman’s constitutional right to choice under any circumstances.”
Biden also has endorsed anti-religious freedom policies that would force nuns, religious charities and hospitals to violate their deeply-held beliefs by funding the killing of unborn babies in abortions and potentially even by helping to facilitate their deaths. Among other things, he promised to restore an Obama-era mandate that would force the nuns with Little Sisters of the Poor and other religious employers to fund contraception, including types that may cause abortions, in their employee health insurance plans.
Biden’s actions contradict his Catholic faith and the beliefs of many Americans from a diversity of faith backgrounds. His actions demonstrate that he does not “walk the talk” or listen sincerely to religious leaders’ concerns, as Rogers claimed. Rather, Biden is doing the will of powerful lobbying groups, including the billion-dollar industry, that spent massive amounts of money to get him elected. It appears that money, not faith, is the real “talk” that influences Biden’s “walk.”
