Democrats Caught Using COVID Relief Bill to Force Americans to Fund Abortions, Planned Parenthood

House Democrats are trying to slip taxpayer funding for the abortion industry into the new COVID-19 relief bill, a leading pro-life organization warned Wednesday.

The Susan B. Anthony List slammed Democrat House leaders for using the reconciliation process to bail out Planned Parenthood and other abortion groups – even though a strong majority of Americans oppose such funding.

“House Democrats are shamefully pushing a massive expansion of abortion on demand, paid for with tax dollars, in the guise of COVID-19 relief – including payouts to abortion giant Planned Parenthood,” SBA List president Marjorie Dannenfelser said. “This divisive agenda flies in the face of the ‘unity’ the Biden-Harris ticket promised to inspire.”

According to their analysis of the reconciliation bill, it includes $750 million for global health activities and billions more for community health centers. Notably, SBA List pointed out that Democrats did not apply the Hyde Amendment to this funding. Without the amendment, taxpayers could be forced to directly fund the elective abortions of unborn babies with this money.

The bill also includes a $50 million funding increase for the Title X program. President Donald Trump defunded Planned Parenthood and other abortion groups from the program through his Protect Life Rule, but President Joe Biden began rolling back the rule in one of his first acts as president. As a result, “Title X would once again become a slush fund for abortion businesses like Planned Parenthood,” according to the SBA List.

Democrat leaders also ensured that Planned Parenthood, a billion-dollar abortion chain, will have access to small business funding this time around.

Other abortion-funding measures in the bill include expanding taxpayer-funded abortion coverage in Obamacare and a new initiative to fund abortion-covering COBRA insurance.

Dannenfelser said pro-lifers are keeping a close watch on Congress as the debate over COVID relief continues.

“Polls consistently show that the overwhelming majority of Americans, including millions of rank-and-file Democrats, are opposed to bankrolling abortion businesses whether in this country or overseas,” she said. “Together with our congressional allies, we will work tirelessly to expose the Democrats’ abortion extremism and win back the House in 2022.”

According to a January Marist/Knights of Columbus poll, 77 percent of Americans oppose using tax dollars to support abortion in other countries. Significantly, this includes a majority of Democrats (55 percent) and pro-choice Americans (64 percent). Most Americans (58 percent) also oppose using tax dollars to fund abortions in the U.S., the poll found.

In defiance of public opinion, President Joe Biden recently began backing the Democratic Party’s plans to end the Hyde Amendment and force taxpayers to pay for elective abortions.

About 900,000 unborn babies are aborted every year in America, and about 62 million have been aborted since 1973 when the U.S. Supreme Court forced states to legalize abortion on demand.
