New York Times Calls Joe Biden “Most Religiously Observant” President in 50 Years, But He’s Pro-Abortion

Pro-lifers criticized The New York Times over the weekend for describing President Joe Biden as the “most religiously observant” president in 50 years even though he supports killing unborn babies in abortions without restriction and wants to force taxpayers to fund their deaths.

Fox News reports the article focused on Biden, a Catholic who regularly attends mass, and his commitment to “environmental protection, poverty and migration.”

“President Biden is perhaps the most religiously observant commander in chief in half a century. A different, more liberal Christianity grounds his life and his policies,” the report stated.

While the newspaper did mention that Biden has faced criticism for his pro-abortion policies that Catholic leaders say “would advance moral evils,” it attempted to rectify his hypocritical beliefs and policies by describing him as a “different, more liberal” Catholic.

Mary Margaret Olohan, a writer for the Daily Caller, contrasted the media’s treatment of Biden’s faith with its treatment of pro-life U.S. Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett’s.

“Lest we forget, the media roundly mocked Amy Coney Barrett’s Catholicism,” Olohan wrote. “Her adherence to Catholic principle was used to suggest that she was unfit to be a Supreme Court justice. People suggested her large family was extreme and that she adopted her children for show.”

The Washington Examiner writer Seth Mandel made a similar observation, writing, “He’s more religiously observant than the Republicans you told us were turning the country into a Christian theocracy?”

Others questioned the “most religiously observant” description of Biden by pointing out that former Presidents Jimmy Carter and George W. Bush also were strong Christians. Carter especially is well-known for teaching Sunday school and devoting time to charity work.

One Ricochet blogger wondered about the reason for the New York Times’ “propaganda piece”: “The most obvious answer is that they’re trying to make modern, trendy leftism appear to be inspired by the wisdom of the ages. What would Jesus do? Well, he’d make abortion on demand for teenagers a Constitutional right! … Providing cover for Mr. Biden from the right by falsely cloaking his policies in Christian theology is a reasonable approach, I suppose. If you have no ethics whatsoever.”

Biden has touted himself as a devout Catholic who cares about the most vulnerable in society. But Democrat leader also hypocritically champions positions that contradict the teachings of his faith and jeopardize the lives and freedoms of millions of Americans, the worst being his plans to expand abortions and force taxpayers to fund them.

Biden’s plans and the people leading his administration are radically pro-abortion. His vice president, Kamala Harris, has been accused of anti-Catholic bigotry. She also prosecuted pro-life undercover journalists who exposed Planned Parenthood’s aborted baby body parts trade.

If Biden does what he promised, abortions could increase across America. Not only does he plan to codify Roe v. Wade into federal law in case the U.S. Supreme Court overturns it, he also wants to end the Hyde Amendment and force taxpayers to pay for elective abortions.

About 900,000 unborn babies are aborted every year in America, and about 62 million have been aborted since 1973 when the U.S. Supreme Court forced states to legalize abortion on demand. Researchers at the Charlotte Lozier Institute estimate the pro-life amendment has saved more than 2.4 million lives.

In April, Biden went so far as to call the killing of unborn babies an “essential medical service” during the coronavirus pandemic. His health care plan would expand abortions as well by forcing insurance companies to cover abortions as “essential” health care under Obamacare.

He also promised to undo all of President Donald Trump’s progress for life, including restoring funding to the billion-dollar abortion chain Planned Parenthood.

On religious freedom, Biden’s position also is deeply troubling. He has endorsed anti-religious freedom policies that would force nuns, religious charities and hospitals to violate their deeply-held beliefs by funding the killing of unborn babies in abortions and potentially even by helping to facilitate their deaths. He also promised to restore an Obama-era mandate that would force the nuns with Little Sisters of the Poor and other religious employers to fund contraception, including types that may cause abortions, in their employee health insurance plans.
