Fetal remains were discovered in the wall of a South Carolina home while it was undergoing renovations, the county coroner said Monday, according to CNN.

The coroner’s office was informed of the findings over the weekend, Rusty Clevenger, the Spartanburg County coroner, said in a statement to CNN.

Police said residents found the remains wrapped in fabric in the wall of the house during normal renovations, FOX Carolina reported. The home is located in Pacolet, which is approximately 10 miles east of Spartanburg.

“We have taken possession of the remains and will submit them to our forensic anthropologist for more potential information,” the statement said, according to CNN.

“Based on our limited information, it is believed the remains have been concealed for a long period of time. We will follow up after the exam with law enforcement to determine other aspects of the investigation,” the statement said, according to CNN.
