Planned Parenthood CEO: We’re Proud to Kill Babies in Abortions, It’s “Really Not a Big Deal”

Planned Parenthood CEO Alexis McGill Johnson is proud that her billion-dollar organization aborts unborn babies.

Johnson, a political activist with no health care background, runs the largest abortion group in the U.S. Planned Parenthood aborts more than 340,000 unborn babies every year while reporting billion-dollar revenues and donating massive amounts of money to Democrats’ political campaigns.

In an interview with the Washington Post this week, Johnson made it clear that she is unapologetic about her abortion advocacy and anyone who supports Planned Parenthood should be, too.

She described the killing of unborn babies in abortions as “basic health care” – and emphasized that it’s nothing people should be ashamed of.

Responding to a common talking point among Planned Parenthood supporters, Johnson said it’s “really not a big deal” that they do so many abortions. She said saying that abortions are just a small part of what Planned Parenthood does is “stigmatizing.”

The newspaper asked her: “For many people, ‘abortion’ is the first word that comes to mind when they hear the name Planned Parenthood. How does that sit with you?”

Johnson said it does not bother her because “abortion is health care.”

“And so, if the first thing they think about is health care when they think about Planned Parenthood, I think that’s fine,” she answered. “Planned Parenthood proudly serves all forms of sexual and reproductive health care, including abortion, and I think when we try to exclude it, we’re excluding a critical part of and a critical option for health care.”

The interview continued:

Washington Post: But it is a very small part of all the things Planned Parenthood does, right?

Johnson: Overall, certainly. But it is still a critically important part of what we do. So I think when we say, “It’s a small part of what we do,” what we’re doing is actually stigmatizing it. Like: It’s really not a big deal that Planned Parenthood does this. We are a proud abortion provider. We believe that abortion is health care, and we believe, fundamentally, that self-determination begins with being able to control your own body and freedom begins with being able to control your own body. So I don’t like to marginalize it in that way.

Planned Parenthood’s latest annual report, which is publicly available online, lists 345,672 abortions, an increase of nearly 4 percent from the previous year. The number represents more than one third of all abortions in the U.S.

Meanwhile, the same report showed that many of Planned Parenthood’s actual health services continue to decline. It provided less contraception, sterilizations, cancer screenings, adoption referrals and other women’s health services than the previous year, mirroring a continued downward trend. Its patient numbers also have been dropping steadily over the past decade.

For years, pro-life advocates have been pointing out these statistics as they urge lawmakers to defund Planned Parenthood of hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars. Even the Washington Post previously debunked the claim that abortions are just 3 percent of what Planned Parenthood does. However, defenders of the abortion chain repeatedly have argued that the funding is necessary for women’s health care, and abortions are just a small part of what Planned Parenthood does.

Now with Joe Biden and Kamala Harris set to take office and Democrats in control of the U.S. House, Planned Parenthood’s taxpayer funding is safe. So, Johnson apparently had no reservations about dropping the facade.

She even argued that most Americans should not be bothered by her pride in promoting the killing of unborn babies in abortions.

“I would say it is not as divisive a position as I think folks think. I mean, 77 percent of Americans support [Roe v. Wade]as being the law of the land,” Johnson said.

But Johnson is out touch with reality. Polls like the one she cited do not really provide an accurate picture of Americans’ attitudes on abortion because most Americans do not understand that Roe v. Wade allows unborn babies to be aborted for any reason up to birth. The United States is one of only seven countries in the world that allows elective abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.

Most Americans are troubled by abortions, including many who identify as pro-choice. A June Gallup poll found that 47 percent of Americans believe abortions are morally wrong, while 44 percent say they are morally acceptable. Polls also consistently find strong opposition to late-term abortions and taxpayer-funded abortions – two of Planned Parenthood’s biggest goals.

Planned Parenthood has become more open about its radical pro-abortion agenda in recent years as its political allies have gained power and joined it in demanding that America not only legalize but also expand and celebrate the killing of unborn babies for any reason up to birth.
