New Jersey Bill Would Legalize Abortions Up to Birth, Force Taxpayers to Fund Killing Babies

New Jersey pro-lifers gathered in the cold Saturday to protest a radical pro-abortion bill that would legalize the killing of unborn babies up to birth and force taxpayers to pay for their deaths.

Tap Into Union reports about 50 people protested outside the offices of state Sen. Joseph Cryan, Assemblywoman Annette Quijano and Assemblyman Jamel Holley, urging them to reject the pro-abortion legislation and support life. They also listened to women’s testimonies and sang Christmas carols.

“This bill significantly burdens New Jersey taxpayers. It would mandate all abortions, including late-term abortions, to be paid for with taxpayer money,” said Shawn Hyland, Family Policy Alliance of New Jersey, in a statement.

A pet project of pro-abortion Gov. Phil Murphy, the bill (S3030/A4848) would legalize the killing of unborn babies for basically any reason up to birth.

It would invalidate all current and future laws that restrict abortions, and it would allow non-doctors to abort unborn babies, according to New Jersey Right to Life. It also would get rid of the 1974 state conscience clause that protects medical workers who object to aborting unborn babies.

Justice for babies outside the womb also is at risk. Marie Tasy, executive director of New Jersey Right to Life, slammed the bill as “disgraceful” because it would eliminate language allowing prosecution for infanticide.

“Instead of providing real solutions to decrease the high rate of maternal and infant mortalities and health care disparities among certain populations in New Jersey, S3030/A4848 is perversely laser-focused on barbarically destroying the lives of infants, both before and after they are born,” she said.

Tasy urged people to contact their legislators and demand that they reject the pro-abortion bill.

Other parts of the bill would give more taxpayer dollars to the abortion industry by mandating state budget funding to the billion-dollar abortion chain Planned Parenthood and require all state health insurance plans to cover abortions, according to the pro-life organizations.

Murphy introduced the bill, the Reproductive Freedom Act, in October. State Senate and Assembly committees are considering it this month.

New Jersey pro-life organizations recently united to stop the legislation through a new coalition, Working Together for NJ. This month, they began a series of peaceful pro-life protests outside the offices of key state lawmakers.

Pro-life leaders said the legislation also will hurt women, the very people who abortion activists say they to want to help.

It’s “a human trafficker’s best friend. Sex slaves get pregnant. Human traffickers have to pay for the abortions as a result. But this legislation will require all New Jersey taxpayers to pay for the abortions of sex trafficking victims,” said the Rev. Gregory Quinlan of Center for Garden State Families.

Polls consistently show that most Americans oppose late-term abortions and taxpayer-funded abortionsA Gallup poll this summer found that 55 percent of Americans think all or almost all abortions should be illegal, while just 29 percent think abortions should be legal under any circumstances.

Planned Parenthood, the Cherry Hill Women’s Center, the ACLU of New Jersey and New Jersey Policy Perspective all support the legislation, as does First Lady Tammy Murphy.

About 41,000 unborn babies are aborted every year in New Jersey, according to NJ Spotlight News; but the governor’s plan could mean even more unnecessary killings.

Murphy has been a close ally of the billion-dollar abortion industry throughout his administration. In January, he signed a bill forcing taxpayers to pay an additional $9.5 million to the Planned Parenthood abortion chain in their state.

Under Murphy’s administration, the NJ Board of Medical Examiners also voted to weaken safety standards for abortion earlier this fall. Among other things, the board voted to repeal a rule requiring that abortions be performed by licensed physicians.
