Joe Biden Says He’s a “Great Admirer” of Pope Francis, But He Supports Killing Babies in Abortions

Pope Francis repeatedly has spoken up for the rights of unborn babies, even comparing an abortion to “hiring a hitman” to kill an innocent child.

Last week, Joe Biden, who touts himself as a devout Catholic, said he is a great admirer of Pope Francis. But his admiration apparently does not translate into conviction or action. Biden, the next president of the United States, not only supports abortions, but he also wants to expand them by codifying Roe v. Wade into federal law and forcing taxpayers to fund them.

Biden, the second Catholic to be elected president of the United States, spoke about his faith and his great admiration for the pope last week with Stephen Colbert on The Late Show, according to the Daily Wire.

“The pope has been incredibly generous to my family,” Biden said. “When he came to visit, we were the house Catholics, and we were the ones showing the pope around and Beau had just died just a couple of weeks earlier, and he had asked to meet with the family in the hangar at the airport as he was leaving in Philly and he came in. We had 16 family members there, and he didn’t just speak about Beau, he spoke in detail about Beau, about who he was, and about family values, and about forgiveness, and about decency.”

Biden told Colbert that he is “a great admirer of His Holiness.”

But it is hard to understand what exactly Biden admires when his political positions on abortion, family and religious freedom directly conflict with Pope Francis’s.

Biden’s plans and the people who he is nominating to lead his administration are radically pro-abortion. They also oppose religious freedom protections for Catholic charities and other employers. His vice president, Kamala Harris, has been accused of anti-Catholic bigotry. She also prosecuted pro-life undercover journalists who exposed Planned Parenthood’s aborted baby body parts trade.

If Biden does what he promised, abortions could increase across America. Not only does Biden plan to codify Roe v. Wade into federal law in case the U.S. Supreme Court overturns it, he also wants to end the Hyde Amendment and force taxpayers to pay for elective abortions.

More than 800,000 unborn babies are aborted every year in America, and about 62 million have been aborted since 1973 when the U.S. Supreme Court forced states to legalize abortion on demand. Without the Hyde Amendment, researchers at the Charlotte Lozier Institute predict 60,000 more unborn babies could be killed in abortions each year.

In April, Biden went so far as to call the killing of unborn babies an “essential medical service” during the coronavirus pandemic. His health care plan would expand abortions as well by forcing insurance companies to cover abortions as “essential” health care under Obamacare.

He also promised to undo all of President Donald Trump’s progress for life, including restoring funding to the billion-dollar abortion chain Planned Parenthood.

On religious freedom, Biden’s position also is deeply troubling. Biden has endorsed anti-religious freedom policies that would force nuns, religious charities and hospitals to violate their deeply-held beliefs by funding the killing of unborn babies in abortions and potentially even by helping to facilitate their deaths.
