Scientists Use Scalps From Aborted Babies to Create “Humanized Mice” for Research

The horrors of abortion take place both in and outside of the abortion industry.

And thanks to pro-life investigative journalism, Americans are beginning to learn more about the barbaric ways unborn babies are treated both before and after they are killed in abortions.

A shocking new report from the National Catholic Register describes how scientists at the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania recently used scalps from aborted babies to create “humanized mice” to study the human immune system.

Gristly photos of their research, published in the journal “Scientific Reports” in September, show the aborted babies’ scalps already with wisps of hair growing on them, attached to mice and rats.

Stacy Trasancos, a chemist and the executive director of the St. Philip Institute in Tyler, Texas, wrote the report. She pointed out that the research report is available publicly online for all to see.

“You don’t need to go undercover and follow around employees from Planned Parenthood like David Daleiden at the Center for Medical Progress to find out how the remains of aborted children are used in research,” she wrote. “All it takes is a look at scientific reports.”

The researchers at University of Pittsburgh used “full-thickness human skin” from babies aborted between 18 and 20 weeks gestation for their experiments, according to their study. They also took thymus, liver and spleen tissue from the aborted babies and “transplanted and grafted [it] onto the rodents and allowed to grow. Then the rodent models were given a staph infection on the skin to study how the internal organs responded,” according to the report.

The babies’ bodies came from the Magee-Women’s Hospital, an abortion facility, and the University of Pittsburgh Health Sciences Tissue Bank, and their mothers gave their written consent to use their babies’ bodies for research, according to the study.

Trasancos explained why the scientists used body parts from aborted babies in their research:

Human skin protects an individual from infection, but there is no way to study the effects of pathogens on individuals without subjecting them to disease. Full-thickness human skin from fetuses was grafted onto rodents while simultaneously co-engrafting the same fetus’s lymphoid tissues and hematopoietic stem cells from the liver, so that the rodent models were humanized with organs and skin from the same child. These “human Skin and Immune System (hSIS)-humanized” mouse and rat models are meant to aid the study of the immune system when the skin is infected.

She said the researchers used scalps from aborted babies both with and without hair so that they could observe and compare them as the hair grew on the rodents.

The report continues:

Human hair was evident by 12 weeks but only in the grafts taken from the fetal scalps. In the scalp grafts, fine human hair can be seen growing long and dark surrounded by the short white hairs of the mouse. The images literally show a patch of baby hair growing on a mouse’s back.

The work was funded by the National Institute of Health (NIH) and supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH)-National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), the same branch that Moderna collaborates with for the COVID-19 vaccine.

Bishop Joseph Strickland of the Diocese of Tyler, Texas, who oversees the St. Philip Institute, said the gristly experiment should be a wake-up call to Americans.

“These are crimes against humanity that should be prosecuted. Silence in the face of these atrocities simply adds to the evil. Wake up America! Demand that this stops NOW!” Strickland wrote on Twitter.

The Center for Medical Progress investigation exposed more of these unethical experiments in connection with Planned Parenthood several years ago. The videos prompted the Trump administration to cut NIH grants to researchers using aborted baby body parts, including another study at the University of California San Francisco that also was creating “humanized mice.”

Trump also created a bioethics board to review all future grant requests through the NIH to ensure tax dollars do not fund unethical research. In September, the board recommended rejecting funding for 13 research projects that planned to use aborted baby body parts.

These life-affirming measures almost certainly will be reversed by a Biden administration. Under the Obama administration, at least $77 million tax dollars were spent on research projects that used aborted baby body parts.
