A leading abortion activist urged Poland to “revolt” and continue vandalizing churches Monday after the country’s high court ruled to protect unborn babies with disabilities from eugenic abortions.
Abortion activists have been rioting across Poland for nearly two weeks in reaction to the life-affirming ruling. Rioters have been vandalizing buildings, interrupting church services, harassing Catholic Church leaders and blocking streets in major cities. Nearly 100 people have been arrested, according to an AP report last week.
Marta Lempart, a leader with the pro-abortion group Strajk Kobiet, told Radio ZET that Catholics must oppose their church on abortion and stand with the protesters to demand legalized abortions, according to the Catholic News Agency.
“Dear Catholics, at the moment, you have a chance to oppose your church. At the moment, you partake in what is going on, in this disgusting stuff the Church is doing. And this is the final warning, because you should revolt, your communities, you – engaged in the life of the church,” Lempart told the radio station Oct. 26.

When journalist Beata Lubecka suggested during the Oct. 26 interview that protestors should not enter churches or damage them, Lempart disagreed.
“Of course you should do that. You should do what you feel, what you think, what is effective and what they deserve,” she said.

Poland is one of the few European countries that protects unborn babies from abortions in almost all circumstances. On Oct. 22, its constitutional court struck down one of the few exceptions allowed in its 1993 abortion law – abortions on unborn babies with disabilities. The justices ruled that the exception violates the constitution because it discriminates against human beings with disabilities.
The ruling could save thousands of babies’ lives. Polish health officials reported 1,100 abortions in 2019. Poland still allows abortions in cases of rape, incest or threats to the mother’s life.
However, it appears that some politicians are caving into the abortion activists’ threats and demands. According to CNA, President Andrzej Duda announced plans to introduce a bill that would allow unborn babies to be aborted if they are diagnosed with a fatal abnormality.
On Monday, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki also asked pro-abortion leaders to enter talks with government leaders rather than continue their large protests and risk spreading the coronavirus, Reuters reports.
Huge crowds of protesters have been blocking the streets in violation of coronavirus restrictions in Warsaw and other cities. Some protesters carried signs that read, “This is war” and “Poland is a woman,” according to the report.
Meanwhile, CNA reports Polish Catholics are asking people across the world to join them now through Nov. 8 to pray for protections for unborn babies.
“The consequences of killing the unborn children become more and more visible and affect us more and more,” organizers of the Rosary to the Gates of Heaven initiative said. “By this atonement prayer we want to make reparation to God for the sin of abortion and reward the suffering of unborn children. We want to save Poland and the world from the consequences of this sin.”
