Joe Biden tried to appeal to religious voters again Monday with a campaign ad claiming his political views, which include supporting abortion on demand, “coincide” with his Catholic faith.
The Democratic presidential candidate has faced on-going criticism for his contradictory views about faith, family and religious freedom. While claiming to be a devout Catholic, Biden has insisted that abortions “under any circumstances” are a “right” and taxpayers should be forced to pay for them.
The Catholic Church teaches that abortion is a grave moral evil because it destroys the life of an innocent unborn child. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops is urging voters to make the issue a “preeminent” priority in the election.
Biden’s new video misleads voters into thinking that his views align with “Catholic social doctrine,” according to the Catholic News Agency.
“Look, I have the great advantage of my faith, the Catholic social doctrine, and my political views coincide,” Biden said in the video. “It’s about, you are your brother’s keeper.”
Because of his faith, he said he believes in the “basic, fundamental American values” of “honesty, decency, treating other people with respect.”
“It really does matter what other people are going through,” Biden said. “I was raised to make sure you look out for the other guy.”
In the Catholic Church’s view, the “other guy” includes the 62 million unborn babies who have been killed in abortions in the U.S. since 1973. But not Biden. His policies would expand the killing of unborn babies in abortions across the country.
He promised to end the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits taxpayer-funded abortions in Medicaid. Popular among Americans, the amendment has saved more than 2.4 million unborn babies from abortions, according to research by Charlotte Lozier Institute. Without it, about 60,000 more unborn babies could be aborted every year in the U.S.
Biden also said he would be committed to “the constitutional right to an abortion” and “reverse the Trump administration and states’ all-out assault on women’s right to choose.” He also promised to “work to codify Roe v. Wade.” The infamous U.S. Supreme Court decision made the United States one of only seven countries in the world that allows elective abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.

In April, Biden went so far as to call the killing of unborn babies an “essential medical service” during the coronavirus pandemic. His health care plan would expand abortions as well. It would force insurance companies to cover abortions as “essential” health care under Obamacare.
On religious freedom, his position also is deeply troubling for religious Americans. Biden has endorsed anti-religious freedom policies that would force nuns, religious charities and hospitals to violate their deeply-held beliefs by funding the killing of unborn babies in abortions or even helping to facilitate their deaths.
Among them, he and his running mate Kamala Harris oppose a religious exemption from the Obamacare contraception mandate for the Little Sisters of the Poor, a nuns’ charity that serves the poor and elderly. The U.S. Supreme Court recently granted the Little Sisters relief from the Obama-era mandate, which would have forced them to fund contraception, including forms that may cause abortions, in their employee health plans.
These positions match that of the billion-dollar abortion industry, which donates huge amounts of money to pro-abortion Democrats’ political campaigns. But they do not align with most voters. Consistently, polls show that most Americans oppose taxpayer-funded abortions and late-term abortions.
Biden and Harris are radical on abortion and deeply out of touch with most Americans on the issue. Polls consistently show that most Americans support protections for unborn babies, especially at later stages of pregnancy. And especially for American Catholics, Biden’s growing radicalism is a major concern. It even prompted a South Carolina priest to deny him communion last October.
