Too often, Americans think of abortions in the abstract. They fail to recognize how massive and horrific the slaughtering of unborn babies is or how their deaths are justified and even celebrated.
Theresa Bonopartis, director of Lumina, a post-abortion healing program, has that horror etched in her memory. More than 40 years ago, she was coerced into aborting her unborn son in a saline abortion, she wrote recently at The Federalist.
Bonopartis said she thinks of her son’s dead body as she listens to politicians like Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden and U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein defend abortion on demand.

Democrats have “no idea of the real distress millions of women experience every day due to a past abortion,” she wrote.
For years, Bonopartis said she was “tortured with guilt and shame” about her abortion before she finally found forgiveness and healing. Through her post-abortion ministry, she said she hears from hundreds of other women and men every year who are struggling with similar pain.
She mourned how far society has sunk that it now celebrates the killing of unborn babies in abortions, and politicians who claim to care about the “soul of our nation” openly embrace it.
She continued:
As we slip deeper and deeper into the depravity of the killing of innocent human life, with elected officials even entertaining infanticide, we lose a little more of our soul every day and will live with the consequences. We already are.
As Biden proclaims, “We are fighting for the soul of our nation,” I can only hope the scales that blind him will someday fall and he will come to realize his significant role in the loss of which he speaks.
Since 1973, about 62 million unborn babies have been killed in so-called “safe, legal” abortions. Every year, more than 800,000 unborn babies continue to be killed in abortions across the U.S.
If elected, Biden would expand abortions by ending the Hyde Amendment and forcing taxpayers to pay for them. He also has promised to codify Roe v. Wade into federal law and undo all of President Donald Trump’s pro-life policies.
Bonopartis said the “soul of our nation” is at stake in the upcoming election, and Biden, though he claims to be a devout Catholic, does not have the moral high ground.
“[Biden’s] disregard for innocent human life goes beyond the soul of our nation. It is a fight for personal souls,” she wrote.
“This self-proclaimed ‘devout’ Catholic sadly has the support of some bishops, who tell their flocks they can vote for him ‘in good conscience,’” Bonopartis wrote. “Anyone who takes the time to contemplate the more than 60 million deaths of innocent babies, however, knows this cannot come from a good conscience, but from an absence of one.”
