Catholic Priest Denounces Joe Biden: He is “Unabashedly Pro-Abortion”

A Maryland Catholic priest called out the hypocrisy of Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden for claiming to be Catholic while supporting the killing of unborn babies in abortions.

The Hayride reports Father Edward Meeks told his parishioners at Christ the King Church in Towson that “Biden is unabashedly pro-abortion.”

“It is not my job to tell you how you must vote,” Meeks said. “We do, after all, still live in a free country with free elections at least for the time being. But it is my place as your priest and pastor to help you see how your vote may or may not line up with the teachings of the church.”

He said Biden’s positions on life, family and religious freedom contradict the faith to which he claims to belong.

“What I’m going to say is not politically motivated because the stakes involved far transcend politics,” he continued.

Meeks said Biden supports abortions up to birth and Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion chain in the U.S. Biden also wants to end the Hyde Amendment and force taxpayers to pay for abortions, the priest continued.

Meeks also criticized Biden’s policies on religious freedom. He said the Democrat candidate would force religious ministries like the Little Sisters of the Poor to pay for abortion-causing drugs in their employee health plans and force religious adoption agencies to violate their beliefs about marriage and family.

Meeks slammed the Democratic Party as the “party of death” because of its radical pro-abortion stance. He pointed out that, during the first presidential debate last month, Biden said, “I am the Democratic Party.”

In 2012, he said Pope Benedict wrote about how strongly Catholics should prioritize the sanctity of human life. The pope identified the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death as one of three non-negotiable values for the Catholic Church.

The report continues:

In light of these and centuries of Catholic teachings, Meeks says, there is one presidential candidate who has historically stood in opposition to them: former Vice President Joe Biden and the Democratic Party. …

[He said:] “It is time for faithful Catholics and other Christians to stand up courageously and forthrightly to confront the evil that has overtaken our culture and say enough is enough.”

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops does not endorse candidates or political parties. However, it is encouraging Catholic voters to make protections for unborn babies a “preeminent priority” at the voting booth in November.

Biden’s policies are the opposite of pro-life. He said he plans to codify Roe v. Wade into federal law and appoint Supreme Court justices who will support abortion on demand. Biden also said he would fight to end the Hyde Amendment and force taxpayers to pay for elective abortions – which could lead to 60,000 more unborn babies’ deaths to abortion each year.

Also concerning to many Catholics, Biden promised to restore an Obama-era mandate that would force the nuns with Little Sisters of the Poor and other religious employers to fund contraception, including types that may cause abortions, in their employee health insurance plans.
