Evangelical Christians are pushing back against a new letter that claims pro-lifers should support pro-abortion Democrat Joe Biden.
Baptist News reports the letter, signed by 5,000 “pro-life evangelicals,” tries to make the case that voting for Biden is pro-life even though he has embraced a radical pro-abortion stance that could lead to more abortions.
“Shame on these liberal ‘evangelicals’ trying to convince all of us that voting for enthusiastically pro-abortion candidates is the best way to demonstrate that we care about the sanctity of human life,” PJ Media writer Paula Bolyard responded. “Own up to the fact that you’re willing to sacrifice the bodies of tiny babies on the altar of your hatred for [President Donald] Trump.”
Biden supports abortions without restriction and wants to force taxpayers to pay for them. His vice presidential running mate, Kamala Harris, tried to force pro-life pregnancy centers to advertise abortions and raided the home of undercover journalist David Daleiden after he exposed Planned Parenthood’s aborted baby body parts trade.
Biden and Harris are being described as the most pro-abortion presidential ticket in history.
With abortion, religious freedom and so many other fundamental rights at stake, James Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family, said the results of the November election “might bring an end to civilization as we have known it,” according to Baptist News.

He said voters should not judge candidates “solely on a candidate’s rhetoric, tone, style or likeability,” and urged them to research the political parties’ platforms.
“I’m voting for the right to speak my opinion and not be censored for it,” Dobson said. “… I’m voting for the right to praise God without fear. I’m voting for every unborn soul that is at risk of being aborted. I’m voting for freedom and the American dream. I’m voting for good and against evil. I’m not just voting for one person.”
But some Christians are trying to justify their votes for the Democratic ticket by arguing that other issues like climate change, poverty and racism are more important than abortion.
The letter from Biden’s supposedly pro-life Christian supporters states: “As pro-life evangelicals, we disagree with Vice President Biden and the Democratic platform on the issue of abortion. But we believe that a biblically shaped commitment to the sanctity of human life compels us to a consistent ethic of life that affirms the sanctity of human life from beginning to end.”
But, as Bolyard noted, no other issue today compares to the massive human rights abuse of abortion – which has destroyed 62 million unborn babies’ lives in the U.S.
She continued:
Oh, but the abortion rate is declining, the so-called pro-life Biden apologists claim! That proves we don’t need to regulate abortion, we merely need to address the root causes! Oh really? Could it be that state abortion regulations are doing exactly what they’re intended to —reducing abortions? Hasn’t the pro-genocide crowd been shrieking nonstop about the lack of access to abortions? Their hysteria gives lie to the claim that Republicans have accomplished nothing in the way of curbing abortion.
Root-cause policies will only take you so far. You won’t hear anyone arguing that we should make rape safe, legal, and rare and instead address the root causes of sexual assault. Arguing that we can reduce abortion by making it legal lacks both cogency and seriousness.
Pro-life laws do save lives, and research indicates that Biden’s pro-abortion proposals would increase abortions.
Last year, Biden caved into pressure from the billionaire-funded abortion lobby and promised to end the Hyde Amendment, if elected. Biden also said one of his first acts as president would be to restore funding to Planned Parenthood, which aborts more than 340,000 unborn babies each year.
The Hyde Amendment prohibits taxpayer-funded elective abortions in Medicaid and other federal programs. Since it was first enacted, the amendment has saved approximately 2.4 million unborn babies’ lives, according to the Charlotte Lozier Institute. If Democrats succeed in ending it, 60,000 more unborn babies could be killed in abortions each year.
Another warning sign for pro-lifers, Biden called elective abortions an “essential medical service” during the coronavirus shutdowns in April. Then, in June, he said he supports abortions “under any circumstances” and wants to codify Roe v. Wade into federal law.
Biden also said he is committed to “the constitutional right to an abortion” and to reversing “the Trump administration and states’ all-out assault on women’s right to choose.”
His and Harris’s position on religious freedom also are deeply troubling. Biden claims to be a “very devout Catholic and a person of deep faith,” but he opposes a religious exemption from the Obamacare contraception mandate for the Little Sisters of the Poor, a nuns’ charity that serves the poor and elderly.
It’s clear that a vote for Biden would be a vote for more abortions, more dead unborn babies, making him an unacceptable option for any pro-life voter.
