Democrat vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris lashed out against President Donald Trump and his U.S. Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett over the weekend because they could restore protections for unborn babies in America.
National Catholic Register reports Harris, a pro-abortion senator from California, said she will “strongly oppose” Barrett’s confirmation to high court.
“Trump’s hand-picked successor to Justice Ginsburg’s seat makes it clear: they intend to destroy the Affordable Care Act & overturn Roe. This selection would move the court further right for a generation & harm millions of Americans,” she wrote on Twitter.
Last week, Trump named Barrett as his choice to fill the seat of the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a heroine of abortion activists. Many have praised Barrett as a “brilliant and gifted” lawyer who will uphold the Constitution and not legislate from the bench.
A Notre Dame law professor and judge on the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, Barrett is Catholic, conservative and pro-life. If confirmed, pro-life advocates hope and abortion activists fear that she could lead to the undoing of Roe v. Wade and help restore protections for unborn babies.

In a statement last week, Harris said it would be an insult to Ginsburg’s legacy to appoint a conservative woman to the court.
“Just yesterday, I paid my respects to the legendary Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who devoted her life to fighting for Equal Justice Under Law and a more fair and just world. Her passing is devastating, and it would be a travesty to replace her with a justice who is being selected to undo her legacy and erase everything she did for our country …” she said.
Harris said the future of “reproductive health options,” meaning abortion on demand, is at stake, and she will fight to keep Barrett off the court.
But Joe Schaeffer at Liberty Nation predicted that there may be trouble for Harris at Barrett’s confirmation hearings. Unlike during the 2018 hearings on Justice Brett Kavanaugh, Harris now has to consider how her performance could affect her presidential running mate, Joe Biden, and her vicious, combative style has not resonated well with voters.
“Her performance at the Kavanaugh hearings in 2018 was at times a mystifying display. In all-out stern lawyer mode, Harris attempted to pin down a befuddled Kavanaugh on vague assertions that he may have possibly had conversations with unspecified persons at unstated times,” Schaeffer wrote. “… But in the end, she appeared to be a paper tiger with no substance behind the roar.
Later, he added: “A potential nightmare now threatens to befall Scranton Joe. Perhaps he should have given much more consideration before tabbing as his VP pick a political provocateur with a love of the spotlight.”
The Senate hearing on Barrett’s confirmation is scheduled for Oct. 12.
Abortion activists and their allies in the Democratic Party are trying to insist that the U.S. Senate delay any Supreme Court confirmation until 2021. They hope Biden will win and fill the seat with another leftist, pro-abortion judge who will keep the killing of unborn babies in abortions legal for decades to come.
Because of Roe, America is one of only seven countries in the world that allows elective abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy. Since it was handed down in 1973, about 62 million unborn babies have been killed in abortions.
For decades, pro-lifers have been working in numerous ways to protect unborn babies, support mothers and fathers and end abortions through elections, education, charity support and other efforts. The U.S. Supreme Court has been a focal point, and pro-lifers have renewed hope that the rights of unborn babies may be restored.
Barrett’s voice would be a welcome change to the liberal, pro-abortion female justices on the court. Ginsburg especially was idolized by abortion activists for repeatedly ruling against pro-life laws. Though abortion is considered a “woman’s issue,” polls consistently show that many women are strongly pro-life and a majority want the law to protect unborn babies from abortion, at least in some circumstances.
Pro-life leaders have praised Barrett as an excellent choice for the court.
Barrett is a former clerk of the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. Like Scalia, she has been described as an “originalist” judge. Though her judicial rulings on abortion are few, she did rule in support of two Indiana pro-life laws during her time on the Seventh Circuit.
She also has made several statements about the value of babies in the womb. According to the Law and Crime blog, Barrett signed a public letter in 2015 that emphasized “the value of human life from conception to natural death.” She also said she believes that life begins at conception.
