Media Love Joe Biden’s Catholic Faith But Hate Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s

How differently the leftist media treats the Catholic faith of Democrat Joe Biden verses that of conservative Judge Amy Coney Barrett.

Both profess to be devout Catholics. Both soon could be in places of high leadership, one a potential U.S. Supreme Court justice, the other a possible president of the United States.

Yet, as The Federalist pointed out this week, one is praised and the other criticized for their devotion to their Catholic faith.

Barrett, a judge on the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, is being considered by President Donald Trump as a potential replacement for the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the Supreme Court. One of several possible candidates for the position, Barrett’s faith has been the subject of continued criticism by the leftist media and Democrat leaders.

“Her faith is hardly applauded as an endearing, positive trait. Biden’s Catholicism, however, is a different story,” The Federalist noted.

Here’s more from the report:

The Washington Post can’t call Barrett a “devout Catholic” without including in the same sentence that she is “fervently antiabortion.” Meanwhile, Biden touts his Catholicism — despite his support for abortion, which church teaching expressly calls a “moral evil.”

The Post also notes that, when Barrett was first nominated to the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, “Democrats balked at her nomination, questioning whether the academic could be an impartial arbiter because of her deep religious convictions.” If Biden has deep religious convictions, it has never bothered the Post.

Former Special Counsel for the Obama White House Norm Eisen slammed a Christian group that Barrett and her husband belong to as a “secretive religious cult” on Twitter. He later deleted the tweet. However, Vice writer Edward Ongweso Jr. posted a similar attack, calling the group a “cult.”

And the leftist women’s publication Refinery 29 recently ran an article claiming that Barrett “hates your uterus.”

Perhaps the key reason for the criticism is that Barrett believes what the Catholic Church teaches about the sanctity of human life. Though her judicial rulings on abortion are few, she has made several statements about the value of babies in the womb. According to the Law and Crime blog, Barrett signed a public letter in 2015 that emphasized “the value of human life from conception to natural death.” In an interview with Notre Dame Magazine, she also stated that “life begins at conception.”

Her statements follow the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Biden, in contrast, does not. Though he also claims to be a strong Catholic, he rejects the church’s teachings about abortion and opposes religious freedom measures that protect Catholics who live out their faith.

Yet, for doing so, Biden receives praise from the leftist media.

According to The Federalist, examples include:

“How Joe Biden’s Faith Shaped His Politics,” is the headline of one article on NPR. “When Joe Biden seeks to inspire or comfort, he turns to his faith,” it continues. “Biden, who carries a rosary in his pocket and attends Mass every Sunday, is known as a deeply devout person of faith.” …

“Joe Biden is a man of faith,” praises CNN. “Biden grew up in a multigenerational Catholic home, where he says he learned the foundational principles of politics,” the article continues. It also highlights nice anecdotes of Biden slipping away to pray while vice president, and of his faith helping him through the loss of his son Beau. Biden even wears Beau’s rosary on his wrist, CNN tells us.

It is hardly surprising. The prominent news outlets that once prided themselves in reporting the unbiased truth now have become mouthpieces for the Democratic Party, a party that has become strongly anti-religious and anti-life.
