The pro-life group Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC) has welcomed the pledge given by President Trump to “fully defund the big abortion industry”, including Planned Parenthood, if he is re-elected this November. President Trump sent a letter to pro-life leaders and activists in the USA setting out his commitment to defeat abortion.
Michael Robinson, SPUC Director of Communications, said: “Abortion is becoming a significant battleground in 2020 as pro-life President Trump offers a stark contrast to the abortion ‘extremism’ of his opponents Joe Biden, Senator Kamala Harris and a Democratic Party that supports abortion-on-demand, and even abortion at the point of birth. The President’s pledge to fully defund Planned Parenthood, a vow that underlines his pro-life credentials, is a welcome step towards a pro-life America that rejects the mass death of millions of unborn children.”
In the letter, President Trump referred to himself as “the most pro-life president” in the USA’s history.
Citing several pro-life achievements during his term of office so far, such as withholding taxpayer funding of the abortion industry, President Trump pledged to continue “to fight in the trenches for unborn children and their mothers” and “fully defund” pro-abortion giant Planned Parenthood if he is re-elected this November.
“Forcing taxpayers to pay for abortions is an abhorrent position that must be defeated at the ballot box”, he said. “I urge every pro-life American to join this effort and do your part to defeat abortion extremism this November… We can score a major, historic victory for unborn children and their mothers.”

Planned Parenthood
The pledge follows an appearance by Abby Johnson, former Planned Parenthood clinic director turned pro-life activist, at the 2020 Republican National Convention last month, when she spoke out against her past employer.
Johnson described one occasion when, assisting with an ultrasound-guided abortion at a Planned Parenthood clinic, the “barbarity” of abortion was made clear to her: “Nothing prepared me for what I saw on the screen: an unborn baby fighting back, desperate to move away from the suction… The last thing I saw was a spine twirling around in the mother’s womb before succumbing to the force of the suction.”
Recently, former clinic manager Ramona Treviño also denounced Planned Parenthood, particularly its “contraceptive mentality”, which “creates a market for abortion by promoting promiscuity”, specifically among the young.
Trump Vs Biden
“As I seek re-election this November, I need your help in contrasting my bold pro-life leadership with Joe Biden’s abortion extremism”, President Trump said in his letter.
President Trump’s message to pro-lifers in the USA follows Joe Biden’s appointment of Senator Kamala Harris to be his vice-presidential running mate in the upcoming U.S. election, scheduled to take place on 3 November 2020. Senator Harris has close ties to Planned Parenthood and an “extreme” pro-abortion record, as reported by SPUC.
