A state Senator is demanding answers for an apparent lack of oversight of Pennsylvania abortion facilities.

State Senator Mike Regan, a Republican representing parts of Cumberland and York Counties, has sent a letter to Department of Health Secretary Rachel Levine, wanting to know why abortion centers throughout the Commonwealth are not being inspected.

In his letter, Regan alludes to the tragic situation which occurred in West Philadelphia at the “House of Horrors” abortion facility where abortionist Kermit Gosnell plied his grisly trade. Gosnell was ultimately convicted of murder for the deaths of three infants and involuntary manslaughter in connection with the death of a female adult, Karnamaya Mongar.

“Considering Pennsylvania’s ugly past with a particular abortion facility going unchecked, the concern raised by my constituent is a valid one—pandemic or not,” Regan writes.

Under a Pennsylvania law passed in the aftermath of the Gosnell scandal, abortion centers must be inspected regularly for health and safety violations. But the last inspection noted on the Health Department website occurred in February.

Indeed, Regan points out on February 12th, the Philadelphia Women’s Center was found to be not in compliance. Regan asks, “Has the department done a follow-up survey to ensure all corrective action was achieved and the facility is now in compliance? If not, why and when will this occur?”

Similarly, the PPSP Far Northeast Health Center failed its inspection in October of last year and corrective action was to be completed by mid-December. However, there is no public documentation on the Health Department website that such corrective action has been achieved.

In all, Regan cites eleven abortion facilities that are due for inspection, and he has asked for a “detailed response” to his inquiry.

When the grand jury issued their report in the Gosnell case, they noted that hair and nail salons in Pennsylvania received greater scrutiny than abortion facilities. History is apparently being repeated, with a number of businesses in the Commonwealth subject to far more oversight than abortion centers—making the year of the pandemic all the sadder.
