Catholic Bishop Falsely Claims President Trump is Not Pro-Life

A Catholic bishop is coming under fire for questionable comments about President Donald trump and his pro-life record. While the president has a long list of accomplishments and things he’s done to protect babies from abortion and support the pro-life community, Rev. John Stowe, Catholic bishop of the Diocese of Lexington, claims otherwise.

Stowe provided no evidence refuting President Trump pro-life record, but merely made accusations that Trump’s personality is not to his liking and on other unrelated issues.

“For this president to call himself pro-life, and for anybody to back him because of claims of being pro-life, is almost willful ignorance,” Stowe said. “He is so much anti-life because he is only concerned about himself, and he gives us every, every, every indication of that.”

“Pope Francis has given us a great definition of what pro-life means,” Stowe said. “He basically tells us we can’t claim to be pro-life if we support the separation of children from their parents at the U.S. border, if we support exposing people at the border to COVID-19 because of the facilities that they’re in, if we support denying people who have need to adequate health care access to health care, if we keep people from getting the housing or the education that they need, we cannot call ourselves pro-life.”

Father Frank Pavone, the Catholic priest who heads Priests for Life, took umbrage with Rev. Stowe’s comments.

“President Trump is the most pro-life President we have had, not only because he is committed to protecting the children in the womb (the only group of people whose right to life is denied under the law), but because he is committed to protecting all of us,” he said.

Pavone continued:

“Far better than the Democrats, President Trump

  • Protects our nation by ridding the world of its top terrorists
  • Protects our jobs by replacing job-killing deals like NAFTA with the USMCA
  • Protects our economy by bringing it to the strongest level ever, and now bringing it back
  • Protects our religious liberty here and abroad
  • Protects our families from violent criminals just walking across the border and into our neighborhoods
  • Protects our Constitution and our courts from the Democrats’ activist judges
  • Protects our health by unprecedented action against the China virus
  • Protects our communities from violent mobs, and defends the police rather than de-funding them.

And much, much more.

So yes, he is pro-life in every sense, and far more effectively than the Democrats.”

In one of his first acts as president, Trump reinstated and expanded the Mexico City Policy, which prohibits taxpayer funding to groups that promote or provide abortions overseas. The change defunded Planned Parenthood’s international arm of about $100 million in U.S. tax dollars.

Trump has repeatedly called out the Democratic Party’s extreme position on abortion. During his State of the Union address Trump slammed the governors of New York and Virginia for promoting abortion up to birth and infanticide. He also called for Congress to pass a ban on late-term abortions on babies who are capable of feeling pain.

Trump and his administration have made a number of changes to protect those who morally object to abortions, expanding conscience protections for medical workers who believe it is wrong to kill an unborn baby and increasing religious exemptions for Obamacare.

His administration also intervened to stop the United Nations from supporting abortion in a resolution about sexual violence. In 2018, under his leadership, the State Department removed references to the so-called “right” to abort an unborn baby from a global human rights report as well.

During his presidency, the administration also finalized a new Title X rule that requires health care entities to completely separate abortion from their taxpayer-funded services. Planned Parenthood, which already has said it will not comply, could lose about $60 million annually through the policy change. However, the abortion group is suing to block the cuts.

Trump has appointed dozens of conservative judges to federal courts as well, including two to the U.S. Supreme Court and he has repeatedly told the UN that he will not promote abortion as a human right.
