CNN Calls Joe Biden a “Practicing Catholic,” But He Would Force Christians to Fund Abortions

The Daily Caller is questioning CNN after one of its fact checkers called Joe Biden a “practicing Catholic” despite his anti-Catholic pro-abortion stance.

The Democratic presidential candidate supports abortions without restriction and wants to force taxpayers to pay for them. Though Biden often touts his Catholic faith, he also opposes religious freedom for the Little Sisters of the Poor and other faith-based charities.

Biden’s pro-abortion politics prompted a Catholic priest to deny him communion last year, and Catholic and pro-life leaders have been calling out the hypocrisy of his claims of faith. But much of the liberal media has allowed Biden to make the claim freely without question.

Earlier this week, a reporter with the conservative Daily Caller News Foundation emailed CNN to ask why one of its fact checkers called Biden a “practicing Catholic” without question, PJ Media reports.

According to the report:

Matt Dornic, the CNN communications head, tweeted a screenshot of the email with the statement, “This is really gross.”

The Daily Caller reporter had sent Dornic an email with the subject line “Press Inquiry.”

“Reaching out to see if CNN could comment on a CNN fact checker calling Joe Biden a ‘practicing Catholic,’ though Biden is pro-abortion, supports expansion of abortion access, and has been denied Holy Communion by a Catholic priest,” the Daily Caller reporter wrote.

Dornic appears to consider it “really gross” to question the sincerity of Biden’s professed Catholic faith, even though there are good reasons to do so.

One of the most egregious is Biden’s willingness to bow to the billion-dollar abortion industry’s demands. Last year, he announced that he no longer supports the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits taxpayer-funded abortions. Popular among Americans, the amendment has saved more than 2.4 million unborn babies from abortions, according to research by Charlotte Lozier Institute.

Biden supports the killing of unborn babies in abortions in direct opposition to his faith. And unlike past Democrats, Biden does not talk about wanting to reduce abortions or make them rare. In April, he went so far as to call the aborting of unborn babies an “essential medical service” during the coronavirus pandemic.

He said one of his first acts as president would be to restore funding to Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion chain in America.

Biden also said he is committed to “the constitutional right to an abortion” and to reversing “the Trump administration and states’ all-out assault on women’s right to choose.” He promised to “work to codify Roe v. Wade.” The infamous U.S. Supreme Court decision made the United States one of only seven countries in the world that allows elective abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.

Biden claims to be a “very devout Catholic and a person of deep faith,” but he also opposes religious freedom for Catholic organizations like the Little Sisters of the Poor, a nuns’ charity that serves the poor and elderly. The U.S. Supreme Court recently granted the Little Sisters relief from an Obama-era mandate that would have forced them to fund contraception, including forms that may cause abortions, in their employee health plans.

Biden’s pro-abortion radicalism is a major concern for voters of faith. It prompted a South Carolina priest to deny him communion last October.

American Catholic bishops have been urging voters to make the abortion issue a “preeminent priority” at the polls in November. The Catholic Church teaches that every human life has value, from conception to natural death. And nothing destroys more human beings than abortion.
