Planned Parenthood CEO Celebrates Her Birthday, But Denies Birthdays to 330,000 Babies a Year

Politico helped Planned Parenthood CEO Alexis McGill Johnson celebrate her birthday on Wednesday by highlighting her role as the leader of the largest destroyer of unborn babies’ lives in America.

Johnson took over as the head of the billion-dollar abortion chain earlier this summer. And while she, like every human being, deserves a birthday, her job involves destroying birthdays for more than 345,000 unborn babies each year.

Her Politico interview was a fluffy, feel-good piece that treated her abortion work as normal. The news outlet asked her about her birthday plans, her reading list and “a fun fact” that people may not know about her (she was a cheerleader for 14 years).

Johnson said she planned to celebrate her birthday on the beach with her daughters.

“I am a LEO who loves summer and sunshine!” she said. “My family and I will be heading to the beach to celebrate.”

The interview included a few serious questions, too, allowing Johnson to promote abortions and attack President Donald Trump for his pro-life actions.

“Support for abortion is at a record high. 77% of Americans support access to safe, legal abortion and don’t want to see Roe overturned,” she said, without citing a specific poll. “But what we see is a small, vocal minority of politicians who control the levers of power in many state legislatures, and they are pushing unconstitutional and harmful bills attacking our bodily autonomy.”

But Johnson’s carefully-crafted claim is misleading, and Politico did not fact check it. Some polls do show support for Roe v. Wade, but only because most Americans do not understand that the infamous abortion case allows abortions up to birth. When Americans are asked specific questions about abortion, polls consistently show that most oppose Planned Parenthood’s radical taxpayer-funded abortion-on-demand agenda.

A June poll by Gallup found that 55% of Americans take a pro-life position on abortion, wanting all (21%) or almost all (39%) abortions made illegal. In contrast, 43% of Americans take a pro-abortion position wanting all (29%) or almost all (14%) abortions legal.

Recent polls from CBS News and Marist also found that a majority of Americans oppose abortions completely or want strong limits on the killing of unborn babies.

Representing Americans’ views on the issue, Trump and his administration have been enacting pro-life policies and supporting state efforts to protect unborn babies. But Johnson twisted these life-saving actions as an attack on health care and families.

“Since day one, the Trump administration has pushed policies undermining access to sexual and reproductive health and undercut our health safety net — this has had a devastating impact on Black and low-income families,” she told Politico.

Johnson’s work is what really is devastating families. Abortions, of which Planned Parenthood does more than one third in the U.S., kill one member of the family and often cause life-long pain for others, including parents, grandparents and siblings. Black and low-income families — and every family — deserve to be supported and valued, and their children deserve birthdays.
