Every child’s life is valuable, no matter what their abilities. Every child’s life also is valuable, no matter how old they are, but society often does not recognize it.

Fortunately, Kaison Garza’s parents did when they rejected their doctors’ advice to have an abortion.

KTXS News 12 reports the Snyder, Texas boy was diagnosed with spina bifida while he was still in the womb.

His mother, Traci Garza, said doctors told her to have an abortion after her 20 week ultrasound because of her unborn son’s disabilities. The doctors predicted that Kaison would never walk or talk, but none of that mattered to the Garza family.

“I said no way. I was not going to do that regardless the way he looked or whatever was wrong with him. I wanted to be there with him,” she said.

Kaison was born on Aug. 31, 2015. Immediately afterward, he underwent the first of many surgeries on his spine, according to the report.

“His spine was sticking out at the bottom of his back and fluid was shooting out,” his father, Robert Garza, said.

After nearly five years and more than a dozen surgeries, Kaison is walking and talking. Later this month, he will celebrate his fifth birthday, according to the report.

His parents recently asked him what he wants for his birthday, and Kaison told them he wants birthday cards. Anyone who wants to mail a card may send it to: Kaison Garza, 3718 Austin Avenue, Snyder, Texas 79549. The family also has a GoFundMe page to pay for his on-going medical expenses.

Before babies like Kaison are born, some people in society dismiss their value. Somehow they believe that it is ok to kill a baby with disabilities as long as that baby has not been born yet. It is a messed up thought that promotes discrimination and destruction for the most vulnerable members of society.

Kaison’s story and many others demonstrate that unborn babies’ lives are valuable, no matter what their abilities, and they deserve a right to life.
