Vice President Mike Pence celebrated the life-saving work of pro-life pregnancy centers Wednesday when he and his daughter visited A Woman’s Place in Pinellas Park, Florida.

The pro-life Republican leader is the first vice president to visit a pro-life pregnancy center while serving in office. A Woman’s Place provides free counseling, ultrasounds, pregnancy tests, STD testing/treatment and much more to families in need as it encourages mothers to choose life for their babies.

“The pro-life movement is defined by generosity, compassion, and love for women and unborn children,” Pence said in a speech afterward at the Starkey Road Baptist Church. The Susan B. Anthony List sponsored the event.

During his visit, he said he met a mother named Kia and her young son who received help from A Woman’s Place. He said she told him how she had been considering an abortion but chose life for her son because of the support that pro-lifers gave to her.

“Life is winning because of the compassion and love that have been shown to women facing crisis pregnancies all across this country now and for decades,” he continued.

Pence said he is hopeful about the future because of the rising pro-life generation, including his daughter Charlotte. He quoted a recent column that she wrote in defense of life, saying, “If our generation is to be concerned with the disenfranchised, the marginalized, the oppressed and the outsider, the unborn child fits all these descriptions.”

The vice president promised that the Trump administration will “always stand for life” and will continue to defend free speech and religious freedom for all Americans, including pro-lifers.

“As Republicans continue to support important pro-life policies, Democrats are bowing to the most radical elements of their party and refusing to protect babies still in their mother’s womb,” he said, noting how Democrats even voted against a bill to protect newborns who survive abortions from infanticide.

He encouraged pro-life advocates to keep working hard and to keep hoping that one day America will protect unborn babies’ lives again.

“The American people cherish the right to life, and we will stand in this movement until we restore the right to life at the center of American life. I believe it with all my heart,” Pence said.

Afterward on Twitter, Pence also highlighted the vital work of pro-life pregnancy centers, which help hundreds of thousands of mothers and babies in the U.S. each year.

“Thank you to A Women’s Place Medical Clinic for the work you’re doing to save the innocent lives of the unborn, including 10,000 babies in the last 35 years & 500 babies within the last 12 months,” he wrote. “I couldn’t be more proud to be part of the most Pro-Life Administration in history!”
