Democrats in Congress are doing everything possible to force Americans to fund abortions in every way possible, including paying for hundreds of abortions in the nation’s capital.

Today, Democrats on the House Appropriations Committee voted down a pro-life amendment to stop taxpayer funding of abortions in the District of Columbia.

The House Committee on Appropriations passed the FY2021 Financial Services and General Government (FSGG) appropriations bill by a vote of 30 to 22. Fortunately, the appropriations bill contains several longstanding pro-life provisions but Democrats attempted to alter the Dornan Amendment (also known as the D.C. Hyde Amendment), which prevents any taxpayer funds, (federal or D.C. revenue) from paying for abortion in the District of Columbia.

In a sneaky change, Democrats inserted the word federal from the amendment, which would allow D.C. to convert federal funds to local taxpayer dollars and force Americans to pay for abortions in Washington.

The Dornan Amendment was gutted in a similar way from 2009 through part of 2011 and the Associated Press reported that the change allowed D.C. to use taxpayer money to fund killing at least 300 babies in abortions.

During the full committee mark-up, pro-life Rep. Robert Aderholt (R-AL) offered an amendment to restore the Dornan Amendment.

Appropriations Ranking Member Kay Granger (R-TX) supported the amendment, saying, The “US Constitution gives the Congress authority over the District of Columbia. It’s our policy that taxpayer funds should not be used to fund abortion. The President has announced that he will veto any legislation that weakens current pro-life federal policies and law.”

Rep. Tom Graves (R-GA) noted that the amendment had “been supported in a bipartisan fashion for years.”

But Democrats defeated the pro-life amendment by voice vote.

The good news is that President Donald Trump would ultimately veto the bill with the pro-abortion language and Senate Republicans would likely not allow such a bill to his desk in the first place. But if Joe Biden is elected and Democrats control the Senate the vote is an indicator that Americans will be forced to fund abortions.
