A baby boy reportedly was born in Vietnam this summer along with an IUD contraceptive device that was supposed to have prevented his life from being conceived.

Thankfully, his mother chose life.

The Sun reports the baby and his mother both are healthy and well after the birth at Hai Phong International Hospital in Hai Phong, Vietnam. The newborn weighed 7 pounds at birth, according to the report.

Dr. Tran Viet Phuong said he noticed the IUD come out when the baby was born and decided to take a photo. His photo showing the newborn clutching the contraceptive device in his fist recently went viral.

“After delivery, I thought him holding the device was interesting, so I took a picture,” Phuong said. “I never thought it would receive so much attention.”

The baby’s mother, who is not named in reports, said she had the IUD implanted two years ago, but she became pregnant anyway. The 34-year-old said she has two older children, too.

Even though her son’s life was unplanned, she chose life for him, knowing that he is a precious and valuable human being and his life matters.
