Former New England Patriots tight end Benjamin Watson is the rare celebrity who speaks openly about the value of every human being, born and unborn.

The Christian athlete, husband and father of seven recently told the Hollywood Reporter that he feels convicted to advocate against abortion.

“I believe in the sanctity of life, be it in the womb or on your deathbed. That’s my conviction,” he said.

Watson has been working on a pro-life documentary called “Divided Hearts of America” to examine the issue in detail.

“But with the film, I’ll engage those who disagree and hear their reasoning,” Watson said. “The No. 1 thing I’m looking for is empathy on both sides.”

MassLive.com reports the NFL star also has not ruled out running for political office someday. He recently told the “Double Coverage” podcast that he does not know yet what the future holds for him.

“I don’t know. I tried to retire last year, but I could still play so I came back,” Watson said. “This isn’t going to work anymore. This is a new space for me. It’s scary, but it’s exciting at the same time. I don’t really know exactly what it’s going to be. I’m not ruling out anything. We’ll see what doors open, what doors close. If that’s the door I’m supposed to go through, I believe that God will supply … We’ll see.”

Watson and his family live in Massachusetts. He and his wife run a nonprofit organization, One More Foundation, which focuses on hunger, poverty, prison reform and other matters. Watson also is a sought-after pro-life speaker. He spoke at the March for Life in 2017.

His documentary, “Divided Hearts of America,” was filmed last year, and now is in the post-production phase, according to the Reporter. It is not clear when it will be released to the public.
