Killing George Floyd Was Horrific and Unjust, Killing Babies in Abortions is Too

An overwhelming majority of Americans believe the killing of George Floyd by police was horrific and unjust, and the officers who killed him should be prosecuted.

Without question, it is something that most conservatives and liberals, Republicans and Democrats, pro-life advocates and abortion activists agree on. And it should unite us.

But the subsequent riots resulting in the deaths of even more innocent black Americans, the politics of Black Lives Matter and Democrat leaders championing the cause have many conservative pro-life advocates concerned that political gains – and not racism or the destruction of human life – are the real goal.

A woman named Dawn who spoke to the Oregon-based Seaside Signal explained the frustration that many conservatives are feeling right now over the recent events.

Dawn said the average protester means well and black lives do matter, but Floyd’s death seems to be being manipulated by a “political left-wing agenda.”

“Five black people murdered during protests, they don’t seem to matter,” Dawn told the news outlet. “The couple hundred black babies murdered every day in abortion clinics, they don’t seem to matter. The black people murdered in Chicago every weekend, their lives don’t seem to be matter. Only if the murder supports the left-wing agenda, then it matters. Otherwise they don’t care these people are killed. We’re all made in God’s image. We’re all important.

“I know they mean well,” she said of a local group of peaceful protesters, “but I think they’re being led by people with an agenda and I don’t think they realize that.”

It appears that the Black Lives Matter organization, for example, is not simply trying to unite Americans behind a goal of ending racism and police brutality. The average person who uses “Black Lives Matter” in social media posts may have that goal, but the organization itself holds some radical political positions that many Americans cannot get behind.

One of them is support for abortion on demand. As black pro-life advocate Ryan Bomberger wrote earlier this week at LifeNews:

Apparently, not all black lives matter. Pro-abortion BLMF declared: “We deserve and thus we demand reproductive justice [aka abortion] that gives us autonomy over our bodies and our identities while ensuring that our children and families are supported, safe, and able to thrive.” Aborted children don’t thrive. BLM groups announced “solidarity” with “reproductive justice” groups back in February 2015. You cannot simultaneously fight violence while celebrating it.

That’s one of the reasons why, to many pro-life conservatives, the movement appears to be more focused on politics than actually protecting black lives. Rather than recognize that abortion also is a massive killer of black lives, Black Lives Matter “demands” abortions. It ignores the millions of unborn babies who are killed in abortions each year or the targeting of black Americans by the abortion industry.

But the organization has another option, too. It could have just not taken a position on the abortion issue. After all, movements limit the issues that they advocate for, that’s why they are movements.

Pro-life advocates care about justice for Floyd and others like him who are targets of police brutality and racism. Pro-lifers want to see every life protected, born and unborn, but the pro-life movement focuses specifically on the abortion issue because it’s a vital human rights issue and one that deserves massive attention.

The mainstream news media’s coverage of Floyd’s death and the protests also has conservatives wondering if liberal journalists are pushing an agenda, rather than actually caring about justice for black lives. According to the Media Research Center, the three major news networks ABC, CBS and NBC devoted hours of coverage to the Black Lives Matter protests last week, but they barely covered the violent riots, looting, vandalism and other violence that also occurred during many of the protesters.

This violence also has hurt and killed other black lives: business owners, police officers, families. Rioters killed a retired St. Louis police chief named David Dorn, an African American who was helping a friend defend their business from looters. Yet, Dorn’s violent death is not being protested.

Americans are in agreement about the horrific injustice of Floyd’s death. Americans want to black lives to be valued and protected. It’s an issue we can unite on. So, it just doesn’t make sense that the so-called champions of the movement are encouraging disunity through radical, divisive policies and ignoring continued injustices against black Americans, born and unborn.
