Research Shows Unborn Babies Can’t be Infected With the Coronavirus

A recently-released national survey conducted by The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center found that a whopping 80 percent of those surveyed have concerns about themselves or a pregnant woman in their lives amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

Researchers say it is important to manage those fears–doctors’ offices are taking a number of precautions, from ensuring that personnel wear masks to wiping down surfaces to ensure cleanliness–but beyond these obvious safety measures, there is a very important point.

The Centers for Disease Control note that COVID-19 is not transmitted through the blood stream, but rather via airborne droplets. That means that preborn babies cannot be infected with the virus through the placenta.

“Women can rest assured that their babies aren’t going to contract the virus while they’re inside their wombs,” said Jonathan Schaffir, an Ob-GYN at the Wexner Medical Center. “However, it’s important for pregnant women to continue practicing social distancing, frequent hand washing and avoiding touching their faces.”

It is critically important that pregnant women receive the reassuring message that they cannot pass COVID-19 onto their sunborn babies. At this time of great uncertainty, such reassurance can help them make the choice for life—and sustain them throughout their pregnancies.

At the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation, we recently received a message from a woman whose friend was worried about the health of her preborn baby because of the Coronavirus crisis. Thankfully, we were able to connect the woman with a pregnancy resource center who could provide her friend with much-needed support during this challenging time.

The abortion industry routinely preys upon the fears of pregnant women in an attempt to sell them abortions. Wise counsel is absolutely critical to helping these women allay their fears and find solace with the aid of a life-affirming medical professional.

It is crucial during this pandemic that pregnant women receive compassionate support. Without it, they just may turn to the abortion industry, which thrives on crises to sell their deadly agenda.
