A Catholic columnist slammed Joe Biden this week for wearing a rosary on his wrist while advocating for the unrestricted killing of unborn babies in abortions.
Writing for the Catholic Herald, Freddy Gray speculated about the upcoming presidential election and Catholic voters’ leanings in a column, “The ‘Catholic vote’ is an elusive thing. Which way will it go?”
Gray described Biden, the presumed Democrat presidential nominee, as “a frightful hypocrite” for attempting to appeal to Catholic voters while advocating against Catholic teachings about the sanctity of human life. Biden claims to be Catholic, but his positions on life, family and religious freedom directly contradict his faith.
“He wears a rosary on his wrist and goes on television with a cross on his forehead on Ash Wednesday,” Gray wrote. “At the same time, he is very pro-abortion and entirely on board with the LGBT agenda. He knows you don’t get very far in his party if you don’t subscribe to these liberal shibboleths.”
Over the past few months, Biden has increasingly aligned himself with the billion-dollar abortion industry. He even abandoned his opposition to taxpayer-funded abortions last summer, though most Americans still oppose it.
Biden said he would codify Roe v. Wade into law and nominate pro-abortion judges to the U.S. Supreme Court. In April, he went so far as to call the killing of unborn babies an “essential medical service” during the coronavirus pandemic.
Gray pointed out that Trump’s words and actions also have turned away a number of Catholic voters, but the Republican president has had “extraordinary success in nominating conservative and pro-life judges.” Trump also has cut off taxpayer funding to pro-abortion groups and advocated for the right to life for unborn babies at an international level.
“It seems unlikely that abortion will be prohibited or even restricted any time soon, but many Christian voters are starting to feel that the angels really are on the side of the Donald, despite everything. We know He works mysteriously,” Gray concluded.

Catholic Church leaders have been clear that Catholics cannot support the killing of unborn babies in abortions. In November, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops released a letter urging Catholics to oppose abortion as a “preeminent priority.” The National Catholic Register also recently highlighted Catholic leaders’ struggle with Biden’s growing radicalism.
Biden’s position on abortion matches that of the billion-dollar abortion industry, which donates huge amounts of money to pro-abortion Democrats’ political campaigns.
Last year, Biden promised to end the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits taxpayer-funded abortions in Medicaid. He also said one of his first acts as president would be to restore funding to Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion chain in America.
Biden recently said he would be committed to “the constitutional right to an abortion” and “reverse the Trump administration and states’ all-out assault on women’s right to choose.” He also promised to “work to codify Roe v. Wade.” The infamous U.S. Supreme Court decision made the United States one of only seven countries in the world that allows elective abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.
His health care plan would expand abortions as well. It would force insurance companies to cover abortions as “essential” health care under Obamacare.
Biden’s growing radicalism prompted a South Carolina priest to deny him communion last October. Others have said they would do the same.
Every year in America, nearly 1 million unborn babies are slaughtered in legal abortions. Since Roe v. Wade, more than 61 million have lost their lives. The Catholic Church teaches that every human life is valuable because he/she is created in the image of God, and abortion is evil because it destroys God’s most precious creation, a baby in the womb.
