Woman Changes Her Mind in the Middle of the Abortion and Saves Her Baby’s Life

Pro-lifers may never see the impact of an encouraging word or an offer of help for a mother and her unborn child.

Some women report driving away from abortion clinics after seeing a pro-life sign. Others go to a local pregnancy resource center for an ultrasound, see their unborn baby and choose life but never go back to tell of their decision.

But occasionally, pro-life advocates have the joy of hearing how their efforts helped to save a baby’s life. Pro-life writer Matt Walsh at the Daily Wire just did.

Last week, Walsh shared about a woman who chose life for her unborn baby nearly six years ago after reading one of his columns, The Christian Institute reports.

He had written the column in 2014 in response to another woman, a conflicted mother who posted a “goodbye letter” to her unborn baby online before having an abortion.

Walsh had hoped to dissuade the anonymous woman from going through with the abortion.

“I felt the uneasiness. I felt the sense of loss. I felt the desperation. And I felt the love. I did. I really did,” he wrote at the time. “You love your child. You want your child to be happy. You said that yourself, and I believe you. But this is not the way, friend. This is not the way.”

What happened to the anonymous letter-writer and her baby, Walsh may never know. But last week, he said he learned that his column did have a life-saving impact on at least two other people.

Here’s more from the report:

Walsh was contacted by a different woman who had read his article when it was first published.

When she read it, she had just taken an abortion pill, but reading Walsh’s article had made her reconsider her choice as she tried to come to grips with the enormity of ending the life of a child she still loved.

Later that night, she saw an advert for abortion pill reversal, and chose to try to save her baby.

Walsh said: “Long story short, her daughter turned 5 this year. She now has a beautiful family. She chose life and does not regret it, to put it mildly.”

He praised the mother for her courage and deflected any praise from himself.

“The role I played was very small but I’m grateful to know that at least one thing I’ve published in my years of doing this made a difference for at least one family,” he wrote. “Most of all I’m grateful that one child was spared the fate 60 million others have suffered.”

Pro-lifers across the world are making an impact for life in big and small ways. It’s true that more than 60 million unborn babies have been killed in abortions in the U.S. since Roe v. Wade. It’s a devastating number because it is not just a figure. Each number represents a unique, valuable human life. But the numbers that pro-lifers do not know are just as important, the babies and mothers who have been spared from abortion because someone reached out and offered hope.
