Africa Needs Medical Supplies to Fight Coronavirus, Feminists Send Condoms and Abortion Kits

African countries desperately need ventilators, personal protective equipment and basic medical supplies as the coronavirus spreads there.

On Thursday, Sweden responded to their need with a $2 million aid plan. But the money will not be used for Africa’s biggest medical needs. Instead, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) plans to use the funds to send abortion kits and contraception to Africa.

The agency claimed abortions are important health care, but they are being neglected because of the focus on the coronavirus crisis.

“Our program is especially important for vulnerable women and girls in the region. We need to address the effects of COVID-19 quickly to have their human rights safeguarded, so they are able to decide for themselves when and with whom they will have children,” said Sida Director General Carin Jämtin in a statement.

Jämtin said the abortion kits are needed because the health crisis may lead to a “sharp increase in HIV, unwanted pregnancies, unsafe abortions and increased maternal mortality.”

Sida plans to send the funding to DKT International, a pro-abortion group that brags of being one of the world’s largest providers of “safe abortion products.” It advertises abortion drug kits and manual vacuum aspiration abortion kits, both of which are extremely unsafe for mothers and unborn babies.

Sweden plans to buy and send these abortion kits to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique, Tanzania and Uganda, according to Sida. The agency said it also plans to use the funding to educate local health care workers, community leaders and individuals.

The move is both unsafe and unnecessary. African countries are hurting for basic medical equipment to save lives, but Sweden is sending them the exact opposite of what they need. Abortions kill unborn babies and often harm their mothers.

This week, the World Health Organization warned that African countries do not have enough ventilators to treat the growing crisis, the BBC reports.

“We want to minimise the proportion of people who get to the point of needing critical care in an ICU, because we know that these types of facilities are not adequate by any means in the majority of African countries,” WHO Africa director Dr Matshidiso Moeti told the news outlet. “I have to say the issue of ventilators is one of the biggest challenges that the countries are facing.”

African countries also have a desperate need for personal protective equipment and other basic medical supplies. A lack of access to soap and clean water for many in the population also is a major concern.

The AP reports more about the medical needs on the continent: “Africa has suffered in the global competition for badly needed medical equipment but in recent days created a continental platform so its 54 countries can team up to bulk-buy items at more reasonable prices. One major shipment of equipment, including more than 400 ventilators, arrived this week for sharing among all 54 countries.”

But Sweden is pouring money into life-destroying abortions instead.

Women do not need to abort their unborn babies to be healthy. The only thing “essential” about an abortion is the guarantee of a dead baby. Recently, medical groups representing more than 30,000 doctors in America emphasized that abortions are not “essential” or “urgent,” and abortion facilities that continue to operate during the pandemic are being “medically irresponsible.”
