New York lawmakers want to dump more money into the billion-dollar abortion industry this year through a new taxpayer fund to pay for abortions.
New York already is known as the abortion capital of the United States. A year ago this week, Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed one of the most radical pro-abortion laws in the country, allowing unborn babies to be aborted for basically any reason up to birth.
New York already has more than 80 abortion facilities, and, in New York City, more black babies are aborted than are born. Government statistics indicate that late-term abortions in the city outnumber homicides by more than four to one.
But pro-abortion Democrats want more.
According to the New York Daily News, state Sen. Alessandra Biaggi, D-Bronx, and Assemblymember Karines Reyes, D-Bronx, still think it is too hard for women to abort their unborn babies.
On Wednesday, the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, they proposed the creation of a new fund to help women pay for abortions if they do not have insurance, do not qualify for Medicaid or are not American citizens, the report states.
“It’s not enough to have a right to an abortion in name, if you do not have the resources to access it,” Biaggi said. “Far too many low-income New Yorkers, young people, and people of color face financial and logistical barriers to accessing abortion care, and are unable to exercise their right to choose.”
Their fund would allow taxpayers to contribute voluntarily through their income tax returns, the report states.
Reyes argued that states across American are “creating obstacles” to abortion, and New York must fight back.

“New York will not sit idly by during this assault on women’s bodily autonomy and right to choose their own fate,” Reyes said.
But the billion-dollar abortion industry does not need more money, and New Yorkers do not need more abortions. New York already forces taxpayers to pay for abortions through the state Medicaid program. Additionally, in 2019, New York City leaders dedicated $250,000 to help women pay for their abortions through the New York Abortion Access Fund.
These laws and budget measures prioritize abortions above women’s health, above babies’ lives, above families’ basic medical needs. They incentivize abortion — not parenting, not adoption, not “choice.”
When Cuomo signed the pro-abortion law a year ago this week, he stripped away protections for mothers as well as their unborn babies. The law allows non-doctors to do abortions and removes minor, common sense abortion restrictions. It removed protections from illegal abortions and opened the door for abuses. According to New York Right To Life, back alley abortionists, abusive partners, parents and others no longer will face charges for illegally killing an unborn baby – even if the mother wants her child. Democrats also repealed the state fetal homicide law, so mothers who lose their unborn babies to violent crimes no longer will receive justice.
It is becoming increasingly apparent that these pro-abortion efforts do not serve women or families. They serve the abortion industry.
