Ironic Planned Parenthood Ad: Abortion is “a Matter of Life and Death”

Tip of the hat to the always thoughtful Secular Pro-Life for a post deconstructing a new Planned Parenthood video ad. The 1:18 video runs under the rubric/hashtag #WeDecide2020. Secular Pro-life went through each and every assertion made by the participants. We’ll talk about just a few.

*Can I be blatantly honest? My life is at stake in this next election.

You’re tempted to respond, “Can I be blatantly honest? Even by your hysteria-mongering standards, this is over the top.” If President Trump is re-elected, we can hope to increasingly make abortion unthinkable and to add to the judiciary women and men who understand that Roe v. Wade was made up out of whole cloth. Justice Blackmun stitched together penumbras and emanations and bad history to produce the gibberish which is Roe v. Wade and its awful companion case, Doe v. Bolton. And, yes, we do understand lives are at stake every year—the lives of approximately 900,000 unborn babies.

*It is a matter of life and death to have access to quality health care.

You can mislabel abortion as “health care” until the end of time but tearing apart unborn babies is “health care” only to those determined to ignore the object of that exercise in “health care”—defenseless unborn babies.

It is a matter of millions of lives and deaths if we restrict or liberalize abortion law, considering how much the law affects abortion rates.

And then there’s

*Our reproductive rights have come into question yet again.

I cannot answer this better than Secular Pro-Life did: “If you mean we question whether elective abortion should be a reproductive right, that’s true. No matter who wins the next election, that question is not going away.”

Finally

*We decide our future” [followed by “We decide” repeated three times].

Building to a crescendo, the ad all but shouts “We decide….

“To go out there and make the change that we want to see. …

“We decide who our leaders are. …”

This is an ad which will be no doubt part of a multi-million dollar campaign to get people who are duped by this nonsense into voting. Fair enough. It’s a free country.

PPFA’s political arm is correct on one score. If you want the future you seek, you must vote.

Even with a supportive media, those pro-abortion candidates who wish to hide their support for abortion will discover they can no longer do so. NRLC and its state affiliates will be there to make sure you know how the candidates respond on the issues.
